A quarry that feeds the state capital
The federal mine register records 15 employees at the Indian Point Quarry, operated by Heidelberg Materials Midwest Agg. It is a surface limestone operation, and the haul radius filed against it is 35 miles — a figure that comes from freight cost per ton and is flagged as an estimate.
Springfield sits inside that radius. The capital’s construction market is driven substantially by state highway and public building work, and aggregate going into that work has to come from an IDOT-approved source.

Public work leaves a paper trail, and the truck is on it
That approval requirement does something for a seller that has nothing to do with stone. Aggregate bound for state work is documented at the source, and the haulage is documented with it.
So a truck that ran Indian Point Quarry loads into Springfield has weigh tickets and delivery records behind it, and those are evidence rather than recollection — they say what it actually carried, not what it was rated for. If you have them somewhere in a drawer in Menard County, dig them out before you sell.
Tickets beat memory. They answer questions a photograph cannot.
Whatever you drive, the offer doesn’t change

What the state lets a truck carry
Those loads all run under one set of numbers, and on state work the numbers get checked. Illinois statute 625 ILCS 5/15-111 sets 80,000 pounds gross for five or more axles, 20,000 pounds on a single axle and 34,000 pounds on a tandem, with no axle inside that tandem over 20,000 pounds, and a formula for consecutive axle groups that varies with spacing.
Local authorities and cities over 50,000 people may set their own weight limits by ordinance, but the same statute stops them exceeding the state maximums. So an Illinois local limit can only ever be lower than the state figure, never higher — which is something to check before you plan a route on the state number alone.
That section carries no seasonal frost provisions and no harvest or agricultural exemptions. That is scoped to that section of the statute and is not a claim that Illinois has no seasonal restriction anywhere, which we did not check.
