We buy trucks in Cypress

The federal mine register records 6 employees at the Cypress Plant, a surface limestone operation. The haul radius filed against it is 35 miles, taken from freight cost per ton and flagged as an estimate. That is a small pit with a short reach, and on its own it would not say much.

Two much larger records overlap it. The Amrize Joppa Plant, a cement works recording 73 employees, lies 10.6 miles off and carries a 150-mile delivery radius. The Tamms Plant, an industrial minerals operation recording 15, lies 15.2 miles off with 100 miles filed against it. All three rings close over this ground, and they are 35, 100 and 150 miles long.

That spread is the useful part. Stone at 35 miles is dump-body work — loaded out, tipped, empty back, several turns in a day on two-lane road. Cement reaching 150 miles is a pneumatic tanker or a mixer, and it is a highway day rather than a local one. Industrial minerals at 100 miles sit between the two and often move in tankers and bulk bags as well.

So a truck sold out of this corner of Johnson County could have lived any of three quite different lives inside the same few miles, and only one of the three is the one people assume when they hear the word quarry. The odometer is the part of that which shows from the outside. Not much else is.

So dump trucks and aggregate haulers are the ordinary shape around a limestone pit this size, with pneumatic tankers and mixers on the Amrize Joppa side of the same 35 miles. That is a read off three federal records, not a preference of ours. We buy all of them.

Day cabs, road tractors, flatbeds, box trucks, farm trucks, work trucks and pickups are used everywhere, Cypress included, and the offer is made the same way on any of them.

Most of the reasons people sell aren’t happy ones, and we don’t treat them like they are. Somebody wants a straight answer and the truck gone by the end of the week. That’s what we’re here for.

Those loads all run under one set of numbers, whichever ring they run inside. Illinois statute 625 ILCS 5/15-111 sets 80,000 pounds gross for five or more axles, 20,000 pounds on a single axle and 34,000 pounds on a tandem, with no axle inside that tandem over 20,000 pounds, and a formula for consecutive axle groups that varies with spacing.

Local authorities and cities over 50,000 people may set their own weight limits by ordinance, but the same statute stops them exceeding the state maximums. So an Illinois local limit can only ever be lower than the state figure, never higher — which is something to check before you plan a route on the state number alone.

That section carries no seasonal frost provisions and no harvest or agricultural exemptions. That is scoped to that section of the statute and is not a claim that Illinois has no seasonal restriction anywhere, which we did not check.
