The federal mine register records 9 employees at Calhoun Quarry #1, a surface limestone operation run by an independent company of the same name. The haul radius filed against it is 35 miles, taken from freight cost per ton and flagged as an estimate.
Draw that ring and look at what falls inside it. The five nearest facilities in this data set are all in Missouri, 16.5 to 18.6 miles off, on the far bank of the Mississippi. The nearest record of any kind on this side is a stone plant at Godfrey, 20.6 miles away. A ring that reaches its closest neighbours a long way before it reaches its own state is an unusual shape for a haul.

The operator is named for the peninsula next door, and that is reached by water
That shape has a name on it. Calhoun County lies immediately west — the strip of land between the Illinois and the Mississippi — and the operator carries it. It is reached from Missouri by ferry. That is a good part of why the ring reads the way it does: much of what sits inside 35 miles of here is on the other side of moving water, so the map distance and the road distance are not the same number.
Which crossings take loaded aggregate trucks, and at what weight, we did not establish, so this page is not going to route one for you. What it does mean is that a truck working out of Jersey County has run a small number of roads a great many times. What the state lets a truck carry
Those loads all run under one set of numbers, whichever bank they started on. Illinois statute 625 ILCS 5/15-111 sets 80,000 pounds gross for five or more axles, 20,000 pounds on a single axle and 34,000 pounds on a tandem, with no axle inside that tandem over 20,000 pounds, and a formula for consecutive axle groups that varies with spacing.
Local authorities and cities over 50,000 people may set their own weight limits by ordinance, but the same statute stops them exceeding the state maximums. So an Illinois local limit can only ever be lower than the state figure, never higher — which is something to check before you plan a route on the state number alone.

- What about the title?We need a title — unless the truck is old enough that it never had one. If yours is lost, a replacement is an $18 counter transaction. If there has never been one, there is a bonded route. Those are the three cases people actually arrive with.
- Do you come out this far?We do — and out here it is often simplest to buy it remotely and arrange the tow, which means nobody is waiting on a boat or on us.
