The operator holds two pits, and this is the far one from its own yard
Callender Construction Company holds the Thomas Quarry here, and the federal mine register records 9 employees at it. It also holds the Junction Quarry at Perry, over in Pike County. Measured between the two recorded coordinates they are 22.99 miles apart — the contractor-owned model in its common rural two-site form, one operator working a pair of pits rather than one large one.
The ring filed against this pit is 35 miles and holds just seven records of any kind, six of them in Illinois. The nearest is the Roodhouse rail yard at 8.48 miles in Greene County; the Florence Plant sits 14.33 miles off in Pike County, and Junction Quarry is the fourth-nearest thing to it.

Two pits under one operator is a scheduling fact before it is anything else
That pairing changes how the trucks get used, which is the part that matters when one comes up for sale. A contractor working two pits 22.99 miles apart moves equipment between them rather than buying twice, so a truck here has usually run both ends of that gap and the ground either side of it, on the same plates and the same maintenance schedule.
It also explains the thin ring. Seven records inside 35 miles is not much of a market to sell into, and an operator in that position keeps its own iron working rather than relying on what is nearby — which tends to mean high hours, honest wear, and a truck that has been maintained because there was no alternative to it.

Whatever you drive, the offer doesn’t change
So dump trucks and aggregate haulers are the ordinary shape around Callender Construction Company and its nine people, with farm trucks and flatbeds across the rest of a Scott County ring 35 miles wide. That is a read off the mine register, not a preference of ours. We buy all of them.

What the state lets a truck carry
Those loads all run under one set of numbers. Illinois statute 625 ILCS 5/15-111 sets 80,000 pounds gross for five or more axles, 20,000 pounds on a single axle and 34,000 pounds on a tandem, with no axle inside that tandem over 20,000 pounds, and a formula for consecutive axle groups that varies with spacing.
Local authorities and cities over 50,000 people may set their own weight limits by ordinance, but the same statute stops them exceeding the state maximums. So an Illinois local limit can only ever be lower than the state figure, never higher — which is worth checking before you plan a route on the state number alone.
That section carries no seasonal frost provisions and no harvest or agricultural exemptions. That is scoped to that section of the statute and is not a claim that Illinois has no seasonal restriction anywhere, which we did not check.

- Does it have to run?No. We buy complete trucks. If the engine, transmission, doors, rear ends, drive shafts, wheels or anything under the hood have been removed, we can’t buy it — but a truck that doesn’t start and is otherwise all there is fine. A missing bumper is fine.
- What about the title?We need a title — unless the truck is old enough that it never had one. If yours is lost, a replacement is a counter transaction at the Secretary of State. If there has never been one, there is a bonded route. Those are the three cases people actually arrive with.
- Do you come out this far?We do — and out here it is often simplest to buy it remotely and arrange the tow, which means nobody is driving the river road twice. We buy across Scott County, into Morgan County and Cass County, and in Winchester, Bluffs and Beardstown — getting to you is our problem, not yours.
- How do you pay?Cash or electronic payment, at pickup. That is the whole of it.
