Sell your semi truck for cash in Allison Gap the easy and convenient way

There is one working row here and it is unusual for this state. Virginia’s mining permit file confirms the U.S. Gypsum Company at the Locust Cove Mine, commodity gypsum, on permits 13036AA and 13915AB.

Most of what we write about in Virginia is crushed stone, or coal, or a mineral sand. Gypsum is none of those, and it is worked in only a handful of places in the eastern states. Where it goes from here was never established, so we are not going to describe an outbound lane we have not measured.

The other thing about this place is the distance. Allison Gap is 31.9 miles from Bristol, and Bristol is the nearest place of any size. That single number does more to shape the truck job here than the commodity does.

Those 31.9 miles repay sitting with, because they set the shape of the work and of the sale.

A single-employer town at that distance produces long outbound legs and very little local drayage. There is no second yard down the road to sell a specialised truck to, and no casual buyer driving past. When equipment stops earning here it tends to stop where it stands, because moving it is the expensive part of selling it.

Which is exactly the situation buying remotely was made for. We can agree the purchase without anybody coming out and arrange the tow afterwards, so the distance stops being your problem and becomes a haulage booking. Out here that is the ordinary route rather than a fallback, and it is the first thing we will suggest.

We also have no local road measurement to give you. Bridge figures — structures within ten miles, how many are below legal loads, how much a crossing takes — are computed at crushed-stone nodes, and this is a mineral plant. There is no such figure for Smyth County here and we are not going to borrow a neighbour’s.

Those long legs run under the ordinary state numbers. Va. Code § 46.2-1122 puts a single axle at 20,000 lb and gross at 80,000 lb, § 46.2-1127 puts a tandem at 34,000 lb, and Virginia’s interstate limits are identical to its highway limits. Section 46.2-1126 sets gross by the distance between the first and last axle, rounding any fraction of a foot up.

Virginia has two commodity extensions and gypsum reaches neither. Section 46.2-1129 gives five per cent up to 84,000 lb for Virginia-grown farm and forest products moved to first processing — a mineral is not one. Section 46.2-1143 reaches 110,000 lb on six axles but names gravel, sand, asphalt and crushed stone, and applies only in counties levying a severance tax, with no statutory list of which counties those are. Whether Smyth County levies one was not established.

So a truck working out of this mine runs on the plain figures. That is the ordinary case in Virginia, and we state it rather than leaving you to wonder whether a permit you have heard of applies.

Beyond weight the rule is one sentence: we need a title, unless the truck is old enough that it never had one. A lost title has a counter replacement; where none exists there is a bonded route. Neither one stops a sale.

Then the two questions this end of the state asks most. There is no emissions inspection here — Virginia runs that programme in ten Northern Virginia jurisdictions and nowhere else, and this is about as far from those ten as the state goes. And Virginia has not adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, so no state mandate is working against an older diesel either.

Neither is a promise about the future and we are not making one. They are the position as the code reads now, which is what you need in order to decide what to do this month.
