How to Calculate Your Trucking Fuel Cost
The formula is straightforward: divide your total miles by your truck’s average MPG to find total gallons used, then multiply that by the price per gallon.
- Gallons used = Total Miles ÷ Average MPG
- Total fuel cost = Gallons used × Price per gallon
- Fuel cost per mile = Total fuel cost ÷ Total miles
That last number — fuel cost per mile — is the one worth tracking over time, since it’s directly comparable no matter how many miles you ran in a given week or month.
