Carrier Insurance Lookup

Check whether a trucking company has the federally required insurance on file with FMCSA, and whether it has operating authority. Enter its USDOT number or its MC number. Free, no signup.

What This Lookup Shows

For the carrier on file under that number, FMCSA reports three kinds of insurance - bodily injury and property damage liability (BIPD), cargo, and bond - and for each, whether it is required, the required amount, and the amount on file. It also shows the carrier’s common, contract and broker authority status, and whether it is allowed to operate.

FMCSA does not report the insurance company’s name through this data. Its Licensing and Insurance search shows the insurer and policy history for a USDOT or MC number.

Finding the Insurer’s Name

Open FMCSA’s Licensing and Insurance carrier search, enter the USDOT or MC number, and answer its challenge question. The carrier’s page there lists its active and past insurance filings by company.

A field this lookup shows as not reported is one FMCSA’s data did not include for that carrier. Not reported is not the same as none on file; the Licensing and Insurance search is the record.
