Ardmore’s thirty
Thirty trucking outfits on the state line
Ardmore has 30 active carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, and 19 of them are registered for intrastate work against 11 that cross state lines. If your tractor or straight truck has stayed inside Alabama, have the Alabama registration with it when you get in touch, since that is the first document we will ask to see.
Twenty-one of those Ardmore carriers run private fleets, hauling their own goods rather than other people’s freight, according to the same FMCSA census. A truck that has served a farm, a builder or a shop in town is exactly what we buy; send us the VIN, a few photos of the cab and frame, and tell us where it is parked.
Thirteen freight haulers and six machinery movers
General freight is the cargo listed most often here, carried by 13 Ardmore carriers in FMCSA’s census, while six list machinery and large objects. Box trucks, dry vans and lowboy tractors all fit what we collect, so tell us the body type and trailer setup up front.
Four local carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census haul grain, feed and hay, and three carry dry bulk commodities. If your truck pulled a hopper or grain trailer, say whether the trailer is part of the sale and have its title ready alongside the tractor’s.
Of the 206 drivers on Ardmore carriers’ filings with FMCSA’s carrier census, 186 work inside the short-haul radius and 20 go farther. A truck that spends its days on local roads is usually parked at a yard, a farm or a home driveway, and we come to that spot to collect it.
Note the odometer reading when you contact us; it is a plain figure we record, and having it ready saves a call back.
The biggest fleet based here runs 25 power units with 15 drivers, per FMCSA’s carrier census, and the next two list seven and six trucks. Whether you are selling one tractor or several units at once, give us the count and the VINs, and we can plan one collection for the lot.
New registrations in town stay small: FMCSA’s carrier census shows two new Ardmore carriers in 2024 and one in 2025. An owner-operator who started recently and is now selling can do it the same way as a long-running outfit, with the title, the registration and the keys.
Titles in Alabama are handled by the Alabama Department of Revenue through its County License Plate Issuing Officials, and for Ardmore that is the Limestone County office at 100 S Clinton St, Suite B, Athens, 35611, about 15 miles away on the Alabama Department of Revenue’s office list. If the title is missing, start the replacement there before pickup so the paperwork is ready when we arrive.
If a lender still shows on the title, bring the lien release with you to the Athens office or have it on hand for us. A title in the name of a business needs whoever signs for that business present at collection, or a written authority from them.
Pits south-east, ramps south
Quarries and intermodal ramps to the south
Two crushed-stone quarries on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list sit south-east of town: North Huntsville Quarry & Mill at 17.9 miles and Huntsville North Quarry at 18.5 miles. Dump trucks and tractors that have worked those pits are trucks we buy; tell us which site the truck ran from and send photos of the bed and frame.
Huntsville Intermodal, a rail yard 24 miles south on the North American Rail Network, sits beside the Huntsville intermodal ramp that the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places at 24.3 miles. Day cabs that have pulled containers between those ramps and Ardmore can be collected from wherever they are parked.
Soybeans, cotton and the work around them
Limestone County has 996 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with soybeans, cotton and corn the leading crops. Farm trucks and grain haulers around Ardmore are often parked at the barn or in a field lot, so give us directions and a gate code if there is one.
Ardmore counts 371 jobs for 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns lists 13 construction establishments. A flatbed, dump or service truck from a local builder is one we take; have its registration and any service records together before we come out.
