Quarries and a rail yard on the edge of Calera
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Helena Quarry 1.2 miles south-west of Calera and Calera Quarry 1.4 miles to the south, both producing crushed stone. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls aggregate out of those pits is often parked close to the scale house between loads, so tell us which quarry gate it sits behind and who can let us in.
Just 0.6 miles south-west of town, the North American Rail Network maps the Calera rail yard, with a second yard at Roberta 3.9 miles out in the same direction. If your tractor has shuttled freight to either yard, a photo of the door plate showing the VIN and the current registration card are the two things to send before anything else.
Cement and shale
Argos Roberta and the mines further out
East of Calera by 7.7 miles, the Argos Roberta Plant appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a cement plant. Bulk pneumatic tankers and the tractors that pull them out of a cement site are trucks we purchase; keep the title in the owner’s name and gather any service records you have kept from those runs.
Further afield, MSHA records place the Bessemer Shale Mine 19.6 miles north-west and the Sylacauga Marble Mine #1 quarry 20.9 miles east. A truck kept at either site can stay there; give us the street address and the hours the gate is open and we will plan collection at that spot rather than in town.
General freight, car haulers and log trailers out of Calera
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 169 active carriers based in Calera, 51 of them interstate and 118 working intrastate only, with 72 operating as private fleets. A private fleet truck that hauled a company’s own goods sells the same way as a for-hire unit: the title, the registration and the keys are what we ask for.
General freight is the cargo listed by 100 of those carriers in FMCSA’s census, while 25 list motor vehicles, 23 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 21 list machinery and large objects. Car haulers, log trailers and lowboy rigs from Calera all fit what we buy, so name the trailer type when you first get in touch.
According to the same FMCSA census, one Calera fleet runs 77 power units with 81 drivers, another runs 63 units with 58 drivers, and a third runs 20 units with 16 drivers. Selling several trucks from one yard at once is straightforward; list every VIN together and we will work through them as a group.
How far and how new Calera trucks run
Of the drivers working for Calera carriers, 300 stay within 100 miles and 311 go beyond it, by FMCSA’s carrier census. A local hauler is usually home in Shelby County at night, while a long-haul tractor may be out of state, so tell us where the truck will actually be on the day we collect.
Across 35 carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covered 29,994 miles a year. Have the current odometer reading ready along with the VIN; those two figures start every conversation we have about a truck.
Between September 2024 and August 2026, inspectors stopped 182 Calera-based trucks, and in those FMCSA roadside inspection records the median model year is 2022, with 20.9 percent dating back ten model years or more. Whatever the model year, the registration and title should match the VIN plate before collection.
Jobs and trades around Calera
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 5,319 jobs in Calera in 2023, with 568 in wholesale trade, 509 in manufacturing and 323 in transportation and warehousing. Box trucks and straight trucks from distribution and plant work are trucks we take, and a copy of the most recent registration renewal helps us confirm ownership.
Construction accounts for 172 of those LEHD jobs and mining and quarrying for 122, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 26 construction establishments in Calera. A contractor selling a dump truck or a flatbed should photograph the bed, the cab and the VIN plate, and send them with the title.
Shelby County had 385 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cotton, cattle and horses at the top of the list. A livestock hauler or a farm truck kept on county land can be collected from the farm itself, as long as someone can meet us at the gate.
Birmingham ramp runs and a missing Alabama title
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Birmingham rail intermodal ramp 21 miles north-west of Calera. If your container tractor is parked near that ramp instead of at home, give us that address; it does not need to come back to Calera first.
If the Alabama title is lost, request a replacement from the state’s title office before you contact us, and keep the receipt with the registration. If a lender still holds a lien, have the lender’s name and account details ready so the payoff and the release can be arranged.
