Quarries and the COOSA PLANT
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the COOSA PLANT, a sand and gravel operation, 12.3 miles south-west of Centre. A dump truck or tri-axle that has hauled out of that plant can be collected where it is parked, whether that is a yard in town or a lot near the pit; send us the address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Two crushed-stone quarries show up in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings as well: Fort Payne Quarry, 19 miles north, and GLENCOE QUARRY, 20.3 miles south-west. If your truck hauled stone from either one, photograph the body, the tailgate and the frame rails along with the cab, and keep any scale tickets or service records together with the title.
Tank work and the rail line
Tankers near the RJ Corman terminal and Alabama City
RJ Corman runs a liquid bulk terminal 19.9 miles south-west of Centre, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Tractors that pulled tank trailers in and out of a terminal like that are among what we buy; tell us whether the trailer goes with the tractor or stays behind, so the pickup is planned for the right load.
West of town, the ALABAMA CITY rail yard sits 24.1 miles out on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that shuttled freight to that yard does not need to come back to Cherokee County first; give us the VIN and where the truck stands today.
What carriers haul
Cotton fields, grain loads and lowboys out of Centre
Of the 117 carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census places here, 49 list general freight, 31 haul machinery and large objects, 30 carry farm supplies and 29 move grain, feed and hay. Lowboys, flatbeds, grain trailers and van tractors all fit that spread, and each one can be sold with the same short list: title, registration and a clear set of photos.
Cotton, soybeans and corn lead the 567 Cherokee County farms tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A farm truck kept in a barn or at the edge of a field can stay right there for collection; just tell us which road leads in and whether the ground is firm enough for a rollback.
Private fleets and local runs around Centre
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 77 intrastate operators against 40 interstate ones in the Centre area, and 85 of the carriers run private fleets hauling their own goods. If your truck worked for your own farm, shop or contracting business, the registration in the business name and the title are what we look at first.
Drivers listed with these carriers split into 150 who stay within 100 miles and 188 who go farther, per the same FMCSA census. FMCSA’s carrier census puts the median at 12,787 miles per truck among the 20 carriers that report mileage. Read the odometer on your own Centre truck before you write to us and include it with the VIN.
Cherokee County roadside data
What 69 roadside inspections show about Centre trucks
FMCSA roadside inspection records from August 2024 to August 2026 cover 69 trucks tied to carriers here, with a median model year of 2016 and 46.4% of them ten or more years old. A 2016 tractor or one far older is handled the same way here: the seventeen-character VIN on the door jamb is where your message to us should start.
The largest fleet based near Centre runs 50 power units with 52 drivers, and two more each run 12 power units, by FMCSA’s carrier census. Selling several trucks out of one fleet works the same as selling one: a title for each, and a list of where each truck is parked.
Getting an Alabama title in order before collection
A missing Alabama title is replaced through the state’s title agency, and that replacement should be in hand before the truck changes owners. If the title is in a former business name, bring the paperwork showing how it passed to you.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 3,117 jobs in the area, with 197 in manufacturing, 98 in wholesale trade and 53 in transportation and warehousing. If your truck was registered to one of those employers rather than to you, ask them for the signed title and a bill of sale on company letterhead before we schedule the collection.
