Gravel west of town, cement toward Theodore
Just 3.1 miles west of Grand Bay, LYNN NOLEN CONSTRUCTION works a sand and gravel pit that the Mine Safety and Health Administration has on file. Dump trucks and tractors that load at a pit that close often spend the night at the pit or in the owner’s yard, so tell us which of the two it is and whether a gate has to be opened for us.
About 12.3 miles north-east, the Amrize Theodore Plant appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a cement plant. If your truck has pulled bulk cement or aggregate between that plant and job sites around Grand Bay, send photos of the trailer coupling, the frame and the cab, plus the VIN, and say which loads it carried.
Further up toward Mobile, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records MLC - Mobile, a crushed-stone quarry 20.8 miles north-east. A truck that rotates between that quarry and the gravel pit west of town can be collected at either end; give us the address where it will actually be standing.
Fuel hauls from Theodore to Blakeley Island
Martin Midstream Partners L.P runs a liquid bulk terminal 14.6 miles east of Grand Bay, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The Energy Information Administration puts the THEODORE petroleum product terminal at that same distance. Tractors that pull tank trailers out of Theodore should come with their registration and any terminal or inspection paperwork you kept.
BLAKELEY ISLAND, another petroleum product terminal in Energy Information Administration listings, lies 15.8 miles north-east. If the tractor is parked near the island rather than at home in Grand Bay, tell us who controls that lot so the collection can be arranged with them, and keep the title close to hand.
Docks and the ICTF
Boxes between Mobile’s port and the ICTF ramp
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics counts Mobile, AL as a port 19.8 miles north-east of Grand Bay, and lists the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) as a rail intermodal ramp 21.5 miles out in the same direction. Day cabs that shuttle boxes between the docks and that ramp qualify for a sale to us; start with the VIN and the odometer reading.
A chassis or tractor left in a yard near the waterfront does not need to be driven back to Grand Bay first. Share the yard’s name and street address with us, plus a contact who can let us in, and we plan the pickup around the truck’s location.
The freight Grand Bay carriers declare
Ninety-seven carriers with a Grand Bay address are active in FMCSA’s carrier census, each one listing what it hauls. In that census, general freight is listed by 55 of them, machinery and large objects by 22, farm supplies by 18, and grain, feed and hay by 17. Whatever the trailer behind it, tell us the cargo it hauled so our questions match the work.
Of those carriers, 42 are registered for interstate work and 55 for intrastate, while 47 are private fleets moving their own goods, again per FMCSA’s carrier census.
Fleets here are small: the three biggest in the federal carrier census list 13, 6 and 5 power units. Registrations keep arriving too, with FMCSA recording 9 new carriers in 2024 and 7 in 2025, so a single owner-operator selling one tractor is the common case we handle.
Odometers and model years along the Grand Bay roads
Among 22 Grand Bay carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA’s carrier census, the median is 16,500 miles a truck. Jot down your own truck’s reading beside its VIN so the first call about it covers both.
Roadside stops logged by FMCSA between August 2024 and August 2026 caught 58 Grand Bay trucks, whose median model year was 2016, with 43.1 percent of them ten or more years old by those inspection records. Note the model year and engine on your first message.
Carriers in the federal census report drivers on both kinds of runs: 87 list work within 100 miles of base and 94 list trips beyond that. A truck away on a long run can still be sold; tell us where and when it will next be parked.
Titles and owners
Jobs, farms and a missing title
Manufacturing accounted for 54 of Grand Bay’s 587 jobs in 2023, a 9.2 percent slice, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Grand Bay also shows 10 construction establishments in County Business Patterns. Trucks owned by a business should come with the registration and a company officer’s signature on the title.
Cattle lead the farm output of Mobile County, followed by cotton and potted flowering plants, across 657 farms tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A farm truck that hauled feed or cotton is sold the same way as a road tractor: title, registration and photos of all four sides.
If the title has gone missing, contact the state’s title agency for a replacement before the sale, and let us know it is on its way so we can line up everything else meanwhile.
The questions we get asked in Grand Bay
- Could you pick up my dump truck where it stands at the Lynn Nolen gravel pit outside Grand Bay?The Mine Safety and Health Administration places LYNN NOLEN CONSTRUCTION 3.1 miles west of town, and we collect from a pit yard like that. Pass along the name of whoever unlocks that pit gate and when it opens.
- My fuel tractor is still parked by the Theodore terminal; does it have to come home to Grand Bay first?Theodore’s terminals sit 14.6 miles east on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and Energy Information Administration lists, and the tractor can stay right there. Send the address and who owns the lot.
- The title for my Grand Bay rig is missing; where does a replacement come from?Grand Bay owners get a duplicate title through the state’s title agency. Apply there, and tell us when you have applied so the rest of the sale can be prepared.
- My truck hauls cattle feed and cotton on a Mobile County farm near Grand Bay; is it something you would buy?Mobile County has 657 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and their trucks are welcome here. A title, the registration, its VIN and a set of photos open the sale for a farm rig here.
