Norris and New Boyles, west and south-west of town
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the Norris yard 6.7 miles south-west of Grayson Valley. A day cab or tractor that has shuttled loads to and from Norris can be collected wherever it is parked now, so give us the street address and say whether a gate code or yard contact is needed.
New Boyles, a second yard on the North American Rail Network, lies 9.1 miles to the west. If your tractor spent its shifts between the two yards, write down the VIN, the plate and the name on the title before you call; with those three items in hand the rest of the conversation is about the truck itself.
Quarry and plant traffic toward Leeds
Dolcito Quarry, a crushed-stone operation the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 8.1 miles south-west, puts gravel and stone in the beds of tri-axle and quad-axle dump trucks. When you photograph a dump truck from Dolcito, take the body, the hoist, the frame rails and the cab, plus a clear shot of the VIN plate.
To the south-east, the Leeds Plant appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a cement plant 9.1 miles from town, and that agency also lists the Jordan Plant, an industrial-mineral mine, at 10 miles. Mixers and pneumatic tankers that load at Leeds or Jordan are all trucks we buy; keep any service invoices together in one folder so they come with the title.
Tankers from the liquid bulk terminal
A liquid bulk terminal sits 10 miles south-west of Grayson Valley, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Tank trucks and the tractors that pull tank trailers from a site like that can be picked up from the terminal lot or your own driveway, whichever is where the truck sits today.
If the tank carries placards or inspection stickers, photograph them along with the tank’s data plate. Tell us what the tank last hauled so the pickup crew knows before they arrive.
Near the Birmingham Airport installations
Two military installations named in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings, NG AASF02 Birmingham at 8.1 miles and Birmingham Airport at 8.3 miles, sit south-west of Grayson Valley. Service trucks and box trucks that have worked contracts around them belong in the same conversation as any other commercial truck.
If the truck is parked on or beside a secured site, let us know who can sign a visitor in or move it to an open lot. We plan the collection around whatever access rules apply there.
Cattle and Christmas-tree farms in Jefferson County
Jefferson County counted 398 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle and cut Christmas trees listed among the top products. Livestock haulers, flatbeds and stake-bed trucks from those farms can be collected from the pasture gate or the barn.
Farm trucks are often titled to a family member or a farm entity, so check whose name is printed on the title before you contact us. If a parent or partner holds it, they will need to sign at collection.
Working trucks from a small job base
In 2023, 320 jobs were based inside Grayson Valley itself, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Owner-operators who live here and run to the yards, quarries and plants around Birmingham can sell from home without driving the truck anywhere.
Have the registration, the title and recent photos of all four sides ready, and include the dashboard showing the odometer. That set of items covers the first questions we ask about any truck in Grayson Valley.
The questions we get asked in Grayson Valley
- My dump truck is still at a quarry lot south-west of Grayson Valley. Should the dump truck leave the Dolcito lot before your pickup?Dolcito Quarry, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 8.1 miles south-west of town, is close enough that we collect the truck where it sits. Give us the lot address and the name of whoever can let our driver in.
- Do you buy tractors that worked the Norris rail yard?Norris, placed 6.7 miles south-west by the North American Rail Network, is a yard whose tractors and day cabs we buy. A Norris tractor starts the same way as any other: its VIN, a set of photos and the titled owner’s name.
- The title for my farm truck is in my father’s name. Is a father’s signature on the title enough for a cattle-farm flatbed?Across Jefferson County’s 398 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, a truck titled to a parent is still one we can collect. Tell us whose name is on the title, and that person signs it over when we collect.
