Own-account haulers and interstate carriers around Heflin
Fifty-nine of the 102 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in Heflin haul only their own goods as private fleets. If your tractor or straight truck hauls for your own farm, sawmill or contracting outfit, it fits what we collect; have the title and the current Alabama registration in one place before you call.
Of those 102 Heflin carriers, 64 stay inside Alabama and 38 cross state lines, going by the same FMCSA census. An interstate truck often carries a USDOT number and apportioned plates, so tell us which plates are on it and whether the registration still lists your own operating authority.
FMCSA’s carrier census shows Heflin adding 7 new carriers in 2025, up from 3 the year before. A newer outfit that is changing direction can sell one unit and keep the rest; send the VIN of each truck you want to part with and we will take them one at a time.
Logs, machinery and farm loads
Machinery and large objects are listed by 36 Heflin carriers, and logs, poles, beams and lumber by 33, according to the cargo classes in FMCSA’s carrier census. A log truck with a loader or a lowboy built for equipment both count; photograph the body, the bunks or deck, and the plate on any crane so the build is clear from the start.
General freight shows up for 28 local carriers and farm supplies for 26, again on FMCSA’s census filings. If your truck switches between feed runs and general loads, list the trailers or bodies that go with it and say which ones are part of the sale.
Quarries, a fuel terminal and guard ranges
Coldwater Quarry, a crushed-stone operation the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 17.9 miles west of Heflin, and the Wedowee dimension-stone quarry 22.5 miles south are the two stone sites nearest town. A dump truck or rock hauler that works those pits can stay at the quarry yard for collection; give us the gate contact and the hours the site is open.
Anniston’s petroleum product terminal lies 12.1 miles west of Heflin by the Energy Information Administration’s reckoning. Fuel and tank trucks that load there are trucks we take, so keep the tank’s test and inspection certificates with the title.
Two guard sites sit west as well: the Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts the Fort McClellan ARNG training center 14 miles away and the Clarke Range Complex 22.4 miles out. If your truck is parked on a contract site near either one, tell us what access rules apply so the pickup is cleared ahead of time.
Cleburne County runs and out-of-state trips
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 257 drivers for Heflin carriers working within 100 miles and 220 going beyond that radius. A truck on the long side may be away from Cleburne County when you decide to sell, and that is fine; tell us the town where it will be parked and we plan the collection there.
Across 20 Heflin carriers that report mileage, the median comes to 24,007 miles a year per truck in FMCSA’s census. Photograph the dash showing both the odometer and the hour meter, and send that shot along with the cab and frame pictures.
Heflin’s three biggest fleets field 76, 76 and 71 power units on FMCSA’s census, with 69, 50 and 91 drivers. If you are thinning out several tractors at once, a list of VINs, model years and where each one sits lets us handle them together.
What Heflin trucks show at inspection stations
Between September 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 112 trucks tied to Heflin, with a median model year of 2016.5 and 44.6 percent ten or more years old. Whatever year your truck is, the paperwork is the same: title, registration and the VIN plate.
Keep the most recent roadside inspection report if you have one, since FMCSA inspection records follow the truck’s USDOT number. Service logs and annual inspection stickers belong in the same folder.
Factory work, contractors and cattle country
Heflin had 1,450 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and manufacturing accounted for 298 of them, 20.6 percent. Box trucks and tractors that serve a plant are often titled to the company, so check whose name is on the title and who can sign it.
Builders account for 13 Heflin establishments in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, the construction count for town. A dump truck or flatbed that belongs to a builder can be collected from the job site or the yard, whichever is easier for you.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 268 farms in Cleburne County, with cattle, potted flowering plants and corn at the top. A cattle hauler or grain truck sitting on a farm lane is a truck we pick up in place; tell us whether the lane is wide enough for a rollback.
The questions we get asked in Heflin
- Our log truck sits on a lot out toward Coldwater Quarry; does it have to come into Heflin first?Coldwater Quarry is 17.9 miles west of Heflin on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect the truck where it stands. Give us the lot’s location along with the name of whoever holds the gate key.
- Somebody misplaced the title on a truck we keep in Heflin; which office issues another one?A Heflin owner applies to the state’s title agency for a duplicate title in Alabama. Start that request before you call, and tell us it is under way so the rest of the sale can be lined up around it.
- Our Cleburne County farm owns the cattle hauler on paper; is a farm-titled truck something you take?Cleburne County has 268 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and farm-titled trucks are ones we buy. Whoever is named on the title signs it over, so have that person or an authorised officer of the farm ready.
