The Leeds Plant, the Jordan Plant and Dolcito Quarry
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Leeds Plant, a cement plant, 1.5 miles east of town, and the Jordan Plant, an industrial-mineral mine, 3.2 miles east. For a dump truck or bulk tractor that has run between those two gates, give us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the key.
Westward, Dolcito Quarry appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a crushed-stone operation 11.4 miles from Leeds. If your truck hauled aggregate out of there, photograph the bed, the hoist and the cab from both sides, and have the title in the registered owner’s name before we schedule the visit.
Rail yards and a tank terminal west toward Birmingham
Norris, a rail yard 6.7 miles west on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, is the nearest rail point to Leeds, with the Boyles yard further out at 12.5 miles. Day cabs that shuttle loads to those yards can be collected wherever they sit; tell us whether it is a lot, a shop or a driveway.
At the same 12.5 miles west, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records Bulk Transport CO as a liquid bulk terminal. For a tractor that has pulled tankers to that site, send the VIN, the registration and any annual inspection reports you kept, so the history is in front of us before we talk about collection.
Intrastate haulers, private fleets and general freight
Of the 85 active Leeds carriers, 68 keep to intrastate hauling and only 17 run interstate, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. A truck registered for Alabama-only work keeps its Alabama paperwork, so have the title and current tag ready when you contact us.
General freight is the cargo listed by 44 of those carriers on FMCSA’s census, followed by machinery and large objects at 18, motor vehicles at 12 and farm supplies at 11. Lowboys, car haulers and flatbeds all fit that mix, and we collect each kind from the place it is parked.
Private fleets account for 39 of the Leeds carriers in the FMCSA census, meaning businesses hauling their own goods. If your company truck is titled to the business, the person signing needs authority to sign for it, so sort that out before the pickup date.
Inspection years and route miles in Leeds
Roadside checks of 65 Leeds-based trucks from October 2024 through August 2026 found a median model year of 2020, and 21.5 percent of them at ten years or older, per FMCSA roadside inspection records. Whatever the year of yours, a clear photo of the VIN plate and the odometer answers our first two questions.
For the 12 Leeds carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA’s carrier census, the median comes to 29,113 miles per truck. The same census counts 126 drivers working within 100 miles and 173 working beyond, so your truck could be at home in Leeds or parked out on a route when you sell it; either location works for us.
Plant jobs, building crews and cattle farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 896 of the 5,093 jobs located in Leeds in manufacturing, 227 in construction, 219 in transportation and warehousing and 172 in wholesale trade. Box trucks and straight trucks that serve those employers are part of what we collect here.
Leeds has 48 construction establishments on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, and a dump truck or crew flatbed from any of them is welcome here. USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 398 farms in Jefferson County, with cattle and cut Christmas trees among the leading products, so a livestock hauler or a farm flatbed sitting on rural acreage outside Leeds is one we will drive out to see.
The questions we get asked in Leeds
- My dump truck sits by the Jordan Plant outside Leeds; must it be hauled into town first? The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Jordan Plant 3.2 miles east of Leeds, and we collect from there or wherever else the truck is parked. Name the site and the person at the Jordan Plant end who can open up for us.
- Which documents does a Leeds seller gather before we come out?Leeds trucks are titled in Alabama, so the title in the seller’s name comes first, then the registration and any inspection or service records. Photos of the cab, frame and VIN plate round it out.
- The Alabama title for my Leeds dump truck is lost, so which state office issues a replacement copy? For a truck registered in Leeds, a replacement title comes from Alabama’s state title agency. Start that request before the sale and tell us where it stands when you get in touch.
- Do you collect trucks that work out of the Norris rail yard?Norris sits 6.7 miles west of Leeds on the North American Rail Network, and we come to trucks there or at any yard between. Send the address and the VIN and we will arrange the rest.
