Six pits and quarries within a day’s loop
The Mine Safety and Health Administration places Notasulga Quarry, a crushed-stone operation, 4.9 miles north-east of town, and Auburn Quarry, another crushed-stone site, 11.7 miles east. A tri-axle dump or a tractor pulling an end-dump between either pit and a job site is the kind of truck we buy here, and it is usually parked at the owner’s yard or at the pit gate rather than in town. Photograph the bed, the tailgate and the tires along with the cab, and keep the quarry’s scale tickets if you have them; they show where the truck has been working.
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists Shorter Pit, an industrial-mineral mine 18.4 miles south-west, Lambert Materials, a sand and gravel operation 21.7 miles in the same direction, and Shady Grove Quarry, 24.3 miles east. If your truck is sitting at one of those pits rather than at home, give us the pit’s name and a contact who can meet us at the gate; we collect from the site and you do not need to move it first.
Propane
The terminal east at Opelika
The Energy Information Administration records a propane terminal at Opelika, 17.4 miles east of Notasulga. Tractors that pull bobtails and transport trailers out of a terminal like that carry a hazmat history with them, and the cargo-tank inspection papers matter as much as the title when we look at one. Send the tank’s inspection record alongside the truck’s registration and we read the two together.
Seven carriers around Notasulga run interstate and 28 stay inside Alabama, by FMCSA’s carrier census. An in-state tractor usually has an Alabama plate and a cab card rather than IRP paperwork; have the cab card and the title in the cab when we arrive, and the plate question is settled where the truck sits.
Thirty-five carriers and three small fleets
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 35 active carriers based in Notasulga, 26 of them private fleets hauling their own goods rather than for hire. Sixteen carry general freight, 13 list machinery and large objects, 12 list grain, feed and hay, and 11 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, on the same FMCSA census. Log trucks and lowboys from that mix come to us with their trailers more often than not; tell us at the start whether the trailer is part of the sale.
The three largest fleets in the FMCSA census run 8, 7 and 5 power units with 6, 5 and 2 drivers. A fleet that size sells one tractor at a time, often the unit that just came off a route; tell us which unit it is by VIN and we handle it as a single purchase, with the title, the bill of sale and the plate transfer sorted on that one truck.
Hundred-mile days
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 49 drivers on local runs within a hundred miles of base for Notasulga carriers and 24 on longer runs. Median annual mileage across the seven carriers reporting it to FMCSA’s carrier census is 33,000 miles per truck. The odometer reading is the first thing we ask for after the VIN; a photo of the dash with the engine hours visible saves a second round of questions.
In Notasulga the count of new registrations on FMCSA’s carrier census stood at two for 2025 and one for 2024. A newer carrier selling its first tractor should expect to show the title in the carrier’s name or the owner’s; if a lien is still on the title, the lienholder’s release goes with it, and the Alabama Department of Revenue’s county official in Tuskegee records the transfer with the lien cleared.
Cotton, corn and cattle around the town
Around Notasulga the land is farmed: 322 farms in Macon County, with cotton, corn and cattle at the top, by USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Grain hoppers, cattle pots and module trucks are the trucks that work those farms, and 12 of the town’s carriers list grain, feed and hay as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census. A farm truck is often registered under a farm tag; bring the registration that matches the plate on the truck and the title, and note whether the trailer is included.
Eight construction establishments work out of the Notasulga area on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, against 322 farms in the county on USDA’s Census of Agriculture. A construction outfit’s trucks - a dump, a water truck, a service truck with a crane bed - usually sit at the shop or the current job; send the address of where it is parked and photos of the body and any mounted equipment with the cab shots.
The office on North Elm Street in Tuskegee
Alabama titles are issued by the Alabama Department of Revenue, and its County License Plate Issuing Official for Macon County is at 210 North Elm Street, Tuskegee, 36083, which the Alabama Department of Revenue puts 9.2 miles from Notasulga. If the title is missing, that office takes the replacement application; go with the VIN, your ID and the current registration.
A truck whose title is in hand needs only the title, the registration and photos of the VIN plate and odometer before we come out. Where the truck was titled in another state and never retitled in Alabama, say so when you contact us; the Alabama Department of Revenue’s county official handles that transfer too, and knowing it in advance lets us bring the right form.
The questions we get asked in Notasulga
- The dump truck sits at the Notasulga Quarry gate north-east of town; can the pickup happen there instead of at my house?Notasulga Quarry is 4.9 miles north-east of town by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect from the pit gate. Give us the operator’s contact so the pickup is cleared with them.
- Which office in Tuskegee issues a replacement title for a Notasulga truck whose paper is lost? The Macon County license office at 210 North Elm Street, Tuskegee, 36083, is 9.2 miles from Notasulga on the Alabama Department of Revenue’s list of county issuing officials, and it handles replacement title applications. Take the VIN, your ID and the registration.
- I haul grain and hay inside Alabama only. Does a hopper on that work interest you?Twelve of Notasulga’s 35 carriers list grain, feed and hay in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 28 of the 35 operate only inside Alabama; hoppers and flatbeds on that work are what we purchase here. Send the VIN, the odometer and photos of the tractor and trailer.
- Does a propane transport from the Opelika terminal need extra paperwork? The Opelika propane terminal is 17.4 miles east of Notasulga in the Energy Information Administration’s terminal records, and a tractor off that run sells with the same title and registration as any other; if a cargo tank comes with it, add the tank’s inspection papers.
