Kiln and mine next door
Kilns and quarries on the west edge of Ragland
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the National Cement Company plant and the RAGLAND industrial-mineral mine side by side, 1.2 miles west of town. A dump truck or tractor that runs between that plant and the mine is usually parked on or beside the property when its owner calls us. Tell us whether the truck sits inside a gate, and who holds the key, so the collection can be set up with the site.
Mitchell Mtn Quarry Hwy 144 lies 3.7 miles south-west, another industrial-mineral mine on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. If your truck hauls out of there, send photos of the bed, the frame and the cab, plus the VIN plate, and we can talk the truck through with you ahead of any visit.
Speedway and Ashville rock on either side of the valley
Two crushed-stone quarries bracket Ragland at nearly equal reach: SPEEDWAY QUARRY 14.3 miles south-east and Ashville Rock Quarry 14.7 miles north-west, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. Aggregate haulers based here may keep a truck at either pit between loads. Give us the quarry name and the gate it sits behind, and we go to the truck rather than asking you to bring it home.
Owners who run tri-axles to both pits often keep scale tickets and service logs in the cab. Hand those over with the title; they let us see where the truck has been working without guessing, and they travel with the truck to its next owner.
Timber leads the local carrier list
Of the 39 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in Ragland, 16 list logs, poles, beams and lumber among their cargo, 14 list general freight, 7 list machinery and large objects, and 6 list farm supplies. A log truck, a knuckleboom rig or a flatbed tractor is the kind of equipment those listings describe, and any of them is a truck we will look at.
If your log truck is out at a cutting site off a county road, a pin on a map is enough to start with. Tell us what is mounted on the frame, such as a loader or bunks, so the photos you send can be matched to the description.
Ragland outfits that stay close to the county line
Ragland’s operators are mostly local: the federal motor carrier census counts 35 intrastate carriers against 4 interstate ones, and 17 of the 39 run private fleets hauling their own goods. The three biggest fleets on that FMCSA census register 6, 5 and 4 power units. If you are selling one tractor out of a fleet of four or five, we can buy that single truck and leave the rest of your operation alone.
Every one of those 39 carriers reports drivers who stay within a hundred-mile radius, while 27 also report drivers who go past it, according to FMCSA. Among the 5 carriers that report annual mileage, the median comes to 20,000 miles per truck on the same census. Have the odometer reading and the registration card ready when you call; our first questions are about those two.
New registrations have been steady but small here: FMCSA’s census shows 3 carriers added in 2025 and none in 2024. If you started hauling recently and the truck still carries a lien, tell us the lender’s name up front so the payoff can be arranged before the title changes hands.
South to the auto ramp
Honda Auto yard and Anniston Army Depot nearby
Nine miles and a tenth south of Ragland sits the HONDA AUTO rail yard, mapped in the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics keep. A day cab that shuttles out of that yard can be collected there or at your home address, whichever is simpler for you.
To the east, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places NG Clarke Range Complex 10.9 miles away and Anniston Army Depot 11.6 miles south-east. If your truck is kept near either installation, check whether a visitor pass is needed to reach it, and tell us so we can plan the pickup around the gate rules.
Ashville
Getting a lost truck title replaced in Ashville
A Ragland truck title is issued by the Alabama Department of Revenue, working through the County License Plate Issuing Officials at the courthouse level. For Ragland owners, the nearest is the St. Clair County office; the Alabama Department of Revenue gives its address as 165 5th Ave., Ashville, 35953, about 9.1 miles from town. If the title for your truck is missing, start the replacement there before we schedule a collection.
Bring your photo ID, the VIN and any registration you still have when you visit the Ashville office. If a lienholder is still on the title, ask the lender for a release letter at the same time, so both documents are in hand together.
Horses, herds and deer
Livestock haulers on the back roads out of Ragland
Ragland’s surrounding countryside is livestock ground: USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 585 farms in St. Clair County, with cattle, equine and deer at the top of its list. A cattle hauler, a grain-and-feed straight truck or a tractor that pulls a livestock trailer is welcome here.
Farm supplies show up as cargo for six of the town’s motor carriers in FMCSA’s census. If your farm truck sits in a pasture or a barn lot, tell us whether the ground is firm enough for a tow truck to reach it, and we will plan around the field.
The questions we get asked in Ragland
- My dump truck is parked at the cement plant west of Ragland. Does it have to come off the plant grounds first? The National Cement Company plant is 1.2 miles west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we can collect from there. Let us know which plant contact can let a tow truck through the gate.
- Who replaces a missing truck title for a Ragland owner, and how far is that office?Ragland owners use the St. Clair County office at 165 5th Ave., Ashville, one of the Alabama Department of Revenue’s County License Plate Issuing Officials, about 9.1 miles away. Apply for the duplicate in Ashville and mention to us that the paperwork has been filed.
- Will you take a log truck with a loader on it from Ragland?Logs, poles, beams and lumber appear on 16 of Ragland’s 39 active carrier listings in FMCSA’s carrier census, and log trucks are trucks we buy. Send photos of the truck and anything mounted on its frame.
- Can you collect a truck from a quarry outside town?Mitchell Mtn Quarry Hwy 144 is 3.7 miles south-west, and the Speedway and Ashville Rock quarries are about 14 to 15 miles out, all on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. Give us the quarry name and gate details and we go to the truck there.
