Log trailers and general freight out of Selma
Of the 243 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census lists for Selma, 124 haul general freight and 80 carry logs, poles, beams or lumber. If your tractor has spent its years under a log trailer, tell us whether the trailer goes with it or stays behind, and send a photo of the headache rack and the fifth wheel along with the cab.
Another 43 Selma carriers move machinery and large objects, by the same FMCSA census. Lowboy tractors and heavy-spec day cabs from that kind of work are on our list. Have the title in hand, along with the registration and any service records, and we can start from the VIN.
Gravel pits and clay mines a few miles from downtown
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 27-Henry Brick-2, an industrial-mineral mine, 1.1 miles south-east of Selma, with the Cosby #1 Pit sand and gravel operation 2.9 miles east and the Oakmulgee Crusher 3.9 miles west. A dump truck parked at any of those sites can be collected where it stands; give us the site name and someone who can let us through the gate.
Further out, Reynolds Mine sits 21.9 miles north-east of town on MSHA’s register. A truck still sitting on site there does not need to be driven into Selma first. Send the address, the VIN and a few clear photos, and we plan the pickup around the mine’s hours.
Small fleets and private haulers in Dallas County
FMCSA’s census splits Selma’s carriers into 61 interstate and 182 intrastate operations, and 104 of them run private fleets hauling their own goods. A business selling a truck it used for its own deliveries needs the title in the company’s name and someone with authority to sign it over.
The three biggest fleets on FMCSA’s register run 26, 20 and 18 power units, with 13, 12 and 12 drivers. Owners trimming a fleet of that size can sell one truck or several; list each VIN and where each one is parked so we can collect them in one trip.
Half of the 53 Selma outfits filing yearly mileage with FMCSA put fewer than 19,667 miles on each truck, half put more. Keep the latest odometer reading handy when you call, since it is one of the first things we ask for.
River crossing
Low clearance on the Alabama River bridge
The National Bridge Inventory counts 31 bridges around Selma, two of them load-posted and one under 14 feet. In the National Bridge Inventory, that one carries US 80 across the Alabama River with 13 ft 5 in of vertical clearance, structure number 002273.
If your truck sits on the far side of the river, let us know which bank it is on and how tall it stands with any rack or stack. That tells us which route we use to reach it before anyone sets out.
Cattle, cotton and manufacturing work
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 398 farms in Dallas County, led by cattle, cotton and soybeans. Grain trucks, cattle haulers and farm-plated tractors from those operations are welcome; tell us if the truck carries farm plates so the registration paperwork lines up.
Manufacturing accounts for 1,013 of the 7,220 jobs located in Selma in 2023, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, about 14 percent, with 127 in construction and 88 in wholesale trade. A box truck or straight truck from a plant or a building contractor can be collected from the yard where it is kept.
Recently registered Selma carriers
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 17 new Selma carriers registered in 2024 and 12 more in 2025. An operator who started recently and is now stepping away from trucking can sell the tractor without bringing it anywhere.
Have the title, current registration and a set of photos ready: cab interior, both sides, the frame and the tires. If a lender is still on the title, tell us at the start so the payoff paperwork is handled with the sale.
The questions we get asked in Selma
- Can my dump truck stay where it sits at the Oakmulgee Crusher, west of Selma? The Oakmulgee Crusher sits 3.9 miles west of Selma on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect the truck there. Name whoever holds the crusher’s gate key, and the pickup gets set with that person.
- Will you buy a tractor that pulled logs out of the Dallas County woods?Eighty Selma carriers in FMCSA’s census haul logs, poles, beams or lumber, and their tractors are among the trucks we purchase. Say whether the log trailer is included when you send photos.
- My truck sits across the Alabama River from downtown Selma; can you still reach it?The US 80 bridge over the Alabama River has 13 ft 5 in of clearance in the National Bridge Inventory, so tell us the truck’s height and which side of the river it is on, and we route the collection to match.
