Marble and calcium carbonate south-west of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists IMERYS Sylacauga Operations, a crushed-stone quarry, 2.3 miles south-west of the city, with the Omya Alabama Plant half a mile beyond it at 2.8 miles. A dump truck or tractor that has run loads between those two gates is likely parked within a few minutes of Sylacauga, so give us the street address or the yard name and we will collect it from there.
Sylacauga Marble, Mine #1 is a dimension-stone quarry 7.2 miles south-west, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Block stone moves on flatbeds and lowboys, so if yours hauled from that pit, tell us the trailer type along with the tractor and send photos of the deck, the axles and the cab.
Twenty miles west, the Argos Roberta Plant is a cement plant on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. Mixers and bulk tractors that serve it often sit in a contractor’s yard rather than at home; name whoever controls that lot so we can arrange the gate before pickup.
Stone, timber, machinery and general freight
Within Sylacauga’s limits, 196 motor carriers are active on FMCSA’s carrier census as of its latest listing. In that federal census, 98 list general freight, 50 list machinery and large objects, 48 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 35 list farm supplies. Whichever of those your truck carried, name the cargo when you first reach out, and send photos of the trailer it rode on.
Most of the town’s operators stay in the state: the federal carrier census shows 149 intrastate carriers against 47 that cross state lines, and 103 of the 196 run private fleets hauling their own goods. A private-fleet truck usually carries the company’s name on the registration, so have whoever signs for the business ready to sign the title too.
By the same FMCSA census, the biggest local operation runs 149 power units with 150 drivers, the next two list 16 power units each, and new registrations held at 11 in both 2024 and 2025. Owners of one truck and owners of a dozen go through the same steps with us: title, registration, a set of photos and the VIN.
Inside the hundred-mile ring and beyond it
Carriers here report 315 drivers who stay within 100 miles and 343 who go farther, per FMCSA’s carrier census. If your truck spends its weeks on the longer runs, tell us where it will be parked when you are ready to sell, whether that is a terminal lot or your own driveway.
Among the 34 local carriers who reported annual mileage to FMCSA, the median works out to 12,000 miles per truck. Read the odometer and send that number with the VIN; it is one of the first two things we ask for.
Between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records logged 183 trucks from Sylacauga carriers; their median model year is 2022, and 16.9 percent are a decade old or older. Whatever the year of yours, keep the most recent inspection report with the title and send us a copy.
Two rail sidings north-west and west of the quarries
On the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Honda Auto rail yard lies 9.9 miles north-west of Sylacauga. A tractor that shuttles freight to and from that siding can stay where it is; give us the location and a contact who can let us in.
Wilsonville, a second rail yard on the North American Rail Network, sits 12 miles west. If you drove out of either and have since moved on, leave the truck parked, send us the address, and handle the sale from wherever you are now.
Manufacturing payrolls, builders and cotton fields
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 5,505 jobs in Sylacauga, with 802 in manufacturing, or 14.6 percent, alongside 173 in construction and 61 in transportation and warehousing. A truck that served a plant here may be registered to the employer, so check whose name is on the title before you contact us.
Twenty-six construction firms keep an address near the marble quarries, per the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If yours is a dump truck or flatbed from one of those builders, have the registration and any service records together, and photograph the bed or deck with the cab.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 522 farms across Talladega County, with cotton, corn and cattle at the top. Farm trucks often sit in a barn or a back field; tell us whether a tow truck can reach it on the ground there, and we plan the collection around that.
Weight-posted bridges on the way out
The Federal Highway Administration’s National Bridge Inventory lists 31 bridges in the Sylacauga area, 6 of them posted for load and none under 14 feet of clearance. Those six postings are about weight, so tell us the gross weight on the registration and we route the collection truck to suit.
With no low-clearance bridges in that federal inventory around town, height is not the question here. What helps us is the exact spot: a quarry gate, a farm lane off a county road, or a yard in town, plus whether the truck sits on gravel, grass or pavement.
The questions we get asked in Sylacauga
- My dump truck is parked inside the quarry gate near the Omya Alabama Plant. Is pickup possible from inside that quarry site? The Omya Alabama Plant is 2.8 miles south-west of Sylacauga on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect trucks from sites like it. Give us the name of whoever opens the gate and we arrange the pickup with them.
- The truck belongs to a private fleet that hauls its own goods. The business owns the truck, not me, so which of us signs it over?FMCSA’s carrier census counts 103 private fleets among Sylacauga’s 196 carriers, and for each of them the person named on the title, usually the business, signs. Have that person’s authority to sign ready along with the registration.
- My tractor pulled logs and poles around Sylacauga. Is a log rig something you take?Forty-eight Sylacauga carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber in FMCSA’s carrier census, and their tractors and log trailers are trucks we purchase. Photograph the stakes, the bunks and the cab, and include the odometer figure and VIN with them.
- My truck’s registration shows a heavy gross weight. Will posted bridges stop the pickup?Six of the 31 bridges around Sylacauga carry load postings in the National Bridge Inventory, and we plan the route for the collection truck around them. Tell us the registered gross weight and the exact address.
