Mill town jobs
Manufacturing carries Tallassee’s payroll
Mill and plant work fills 1,474 of Tallassee’s 3,375 jobs, a 43.7 percent share that the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts record for 2023. If your truck has hauled raw material in or finished goods out of a plant here, a note of the routes it ran helps us picture its working life before we see it.
Construction holds 56 of those LEHD jobs, 1.7 percent of the 2023 total, while County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 29 construction establishments. A dump truck or flatbed that has moved between small Elmore County job sites can stay parked at the yard or the site; give us the address and a gate contact and we will plan collection there.
Gravel and stone south and east of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Shorter Pit, an industrial-mineral mine, 9.4 miles south of Tallassee, and Lambert Materials, a sand and gravel operation, 11 miles to the south-west. A tri-axle or end-dump that has run aggregate out of either one can be collected where it last worked, so tell us which pit it is near.
East toward Lee County, Notasulga Quarry sits 17.5 miles out and Auburn Quarry 24.6 miles out, both crushed-stone quarries on the MSHA list, with City Pit 17.4 miles south-west. For a quarry hauler, send the VIN, the title and a set of photos showing the bed, frame and cab, and we will work from those.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 130 active carriers in Tallassee; 104 operate intrastate and 26 interstate, and 88 are private fleets hauling their own goods. Most trucks we would collect here, then, are registered in Alabama and kept close to home, which makes a current Alabama registration the first paper to find.
Under the same FMCSA census, Tallassee’s 130 split their cargo across general freight at 44 carriers, heavy machinery at 34, farm supplies at 25 and timber products at 20. A log truck, lowboy or grain hauler from any of those lines is a truck we buy; say which cargo it carried when you get in touch.
Fleet sizes vary widely in the FMCSA records: one operation here runs 534 power units with 286 drivers, another 68 power units, a third 37. Census filings for new carriers show seven registered in 2024 and two in 2025, so owner-operators selling a single tractor are as welcome as a fleet clearing several.
Between September 2024 and August 2026, 212 Tallassee-based trucks crossed an inspector’s path, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give them a median model year of 2020, with 24.1 percent built a decade or more ago. Whatever the year of yours, have the title in the owner’s name and the registration to hand before we talk.
Among 19 carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median comes to 17,967 miles per truck a year, and the census puts 482 drivers within 100 miles of base against 260 beyond it. If your truck rarely leaves Elmore County, that is the pattern here; keep any service records you have, since they travel with the truck.
Fields and woodyards
Elmore County farms and the trucks parked on them
Cotton leads Elmore County’s 478 farms, followed by corn and cattle, in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A cattle hauler, grain truck or module mover kept on a farm can be collected from the farm itself; send directions to the barn or shed where it sits.
Timber shows in the FMCSA carrier census too, with 20 Tallassee carriers listing logs, poles, beams and lumber. If yours is a log truck parked at a woodyard or a landing off a county road, a pinned map location and a photo of the access point save a wasted trip.
Route in
Bridges and roads for a Tallassee pickup
Two of Tallassee’s 14 bridges carry posted weight limits and none drops below 14 feet of clearance, going by the Federal Highway Administration’s National Bridge Inventory. Tell us the route from the main road to where your truck is parked, so the carrier we send can avoid a posted bridge on the way.
West of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places NG Montgomery JFHQ AFRC / CSMS 01, a military installation, 23.1 miles away. Trucks sitting toward Montgomery or anywhere between there and the quarries east of Tallassee are within reach; give us the address and we come to it.
The questions we get asked in Tallassee
- Can you collect a dump truck still sitting at Shorter Pit or Lambert Materials near Tallassee?Shorter Pit is 9.4 miles south and Lambert Materials 11 miles south-west on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from pits like those directly. Name the operator of the pit and the person holding its gate key when you write.
- Will you take a Tallassee log truck or cotton-season farm truck?Twenty Tallassee carriers list logs and lumber and 25 list farm supplies in FMCSA’s carrier census, and trucks from both lines are ones we purchase. The VIN, the Alabama title and a few photos of the rig are enough to begin.
- Which Alabama papers matter for a Tallassee truck sale? With 104 of Tallassee’s 130 active carriers running intrastate under FMCSA’s carrier census, most trucks here carry Alabama papers, so start with the title and current registration. Add any inspection or service records you kept.
