Two fuel racks just west of the foothills
Head 3.4 miles west from Alum Rock’s foothills and you reach the San Jose Terminal, a petroleum product terminal on the Energy Information Administration’s list. A tank truck or fuel tractor loading there is likely parked a few minutes from home between runs, so tell us the street or yard where it sits and who holds the keys.
Shell’s San Jose Terminal is 5 miles west, again according to the Energy Information Administration’s terminal listings. If your tanker has pulled racks at either site, have the title in your name and the current registration together before you call, along with any tank test or inspection paperwork you kept for it.
A fuel tractor and its trailer can be sold together or apart. Tell us which units carry separate titles and send a photo of each VIN plate, one for the tractor and one for every trailer parked on the east side.
Caltrain shops and the San Jose rail yard
Stockton Yard, home to the Caltrain shops, lies 5.2 miles west of Alum Rock on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that shuttles freight or materials around rail property may sit inside a fenced lot, so give us a gate contact when you describe where it is.
San Jose Yard is also 5.2 miles out, but to the south-west, per the North American Rail Network. If your tractor has worked between the two yards, photos of the cab, the frame rails and the fifth wheel let us see the whole truck before the visit is booked.
Gravel and stone in the hills around Alum Rock
Three Mine Safety and Health Administration listings fall within 15 miles: DeSilva Gates Aggregates, a sand and gravel operation 14 miles north; Sheridan Quarry, an industrial-mineral mine 14.1 miles north-west; and Lexington Quarry, a crushed-stone site 14.5 miles south-west. Dump trucks, transfer rigs and belly-dump tractors are what those sites keep loaded.
A dump truck may still be sitting at a pit rather than at your house when you decide to sell. We collect from wherever it is parked, so tell us whether the quarry needs a visitor pass or an escort, and send a picture of the bed and the hoist alongside the cab.
Builders and haulers on Alum Rock payrolls
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts placed 1,155 jobs in Alum Rock, with construction holding 96 of them, or 8.3 percent. Contractors here tend to run pickups with beds, flatbeds and small dump trucks, and any of those can be sold to us with a clear title and current registration.
Transportation and warehousing accounted for 54 jobs, 4.7 percent of the local total, in that same 2023 LEHD release. Owner-operators and small fleets based in town can list every unit they want to sell in one message, with the VIN, the odometer reading and the photos for each.
Mushroom houses, nursery stock and Santa Clara cattle
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 825 farms across Santa Clara County, with mushrooms, potted flowering plants and cattle at the top of its list. Box trucks and reefers that move mushrooms and nursery stock, and stock trailers behind cattle haulers, all come off farms like these.
A farm truck often stays registered to the ranch or nursery rather than to a person. Check whose name appears on the title before you contact us, and if it is a business, have someone who can sign for that business available on the day.
Where CARB’s fleet and sales rules stand for east San Jose owners
The California Air Resources Board lists the drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements of its Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation as repealed. Owners around Alum Rock who were planning a sale around those deadlines can sell on their own schedule instead.
Its Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is shown as contested, and federal court records show enforcement of the zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles as paused. A diesel tractor, box truck or dump truck registered in Santa Clara County can be sold to us whatever those rules settle into.
The questions we get asked in Alum Rock
- Our tanker sits in a yard by the San Jose Terminal - does it have to come up to Alum Rock first? The Energy Information Administration puts that terminal 3.4 miles west of Alum Rock, and we collect the truck where it is parked there. Send the yard address beside the terminal plus a name and number for whoever unlocks it.
- Our dump truck is still up at DeSilva Gates Aggregates - will you collect it from the pit?DeSilva Gates Aggregates is 14 miles north on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records, and a truck at a site like that is collected on location. Let us know about any gate pass or site check-in the pit requires.
- The Santa Clara County farm truck is titled to our ranch rather than to me - who signs?Santa Clara County’s 825 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture include plenty of trucks owned by a business rather than a person. Have someone authorised to sign for the ranch present, with the title and current registration.
