Byron road south
Gravel pits a dozen miles below the island
Heading south from Bethel Island, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists G3 Enterprises Byron Plant, a sand and gravel operation, at 11.6 miles, with Kellog Creek Aggregates Inc just past it at 11.9 miles. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that hauls out of either Byron-area pit is the sort of equipment we buy, and we can meet it at the plant if it parks there between loads.
Because those two plants sit only three-tenths of a mile apart on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listings, tell us which gate the truck actually stays behind. Send photos of the bed, the cab and the VIN plate, and have the title and current registration in one folder so the pictures and the papers match.
Westward, Lind Marine Incorporated appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as an industrial-mineral mine 12.8 miles from the island. If your truck runs mineral loads for that site, give us the address of the yard where it is kept and the name of whoever can open the yard.
Two rail yards on the western run
Du Point Yard lies 6.2 miles west of Bethel Island on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and Pittsburg Yard follows at 14.6 miles along the same heading. Tractors and flatbeds that shuttle freight to or from either yard are part of what we collect from owners on the island.
If your rig is usually dropped near Du Point or Pittsburg rather than at home, we can arrange the pickup at that spot. Let us know the street location, whether a trailer is still hooked to it, and whose permission is needed to enter.
Tank terminals east and west
Asphalt to the west, Stockton terminals to the east
The Energy Information Administration lists Pittsburgh Asphalt, a petroleum product terminal, 15.8 miles west of town, and a second terminal named Stockton 17.2 miles east. A tanker or asphalt truck that loads at either end of that stretch fits the commercial equipment we purchase.
On the Stockton side, Superior Carriers is recorded by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics as a liquid bulk terminal 17.6 miles east of Bethel Island. Tank units that have worked bulk terminals often carry tank test or inspection paperwork; keep any you have with the title, and tell us which terminals the truck served.
Small operators hauling machinery and freight
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 10 active motor carriers based on Bethel Island: eight run only inside California, two cross state lines, and three are private fleets moving their own goods. For most sellers here, that means the paperwork in hand is California registration, which is enough for us to work from.
Machinery and large objects lead the cargo listings, with four of those carriers naming it in FMCSA’s carrier census, while general freight and utility work each account for two and coal and coke for one. Lowboys, heavy-haul tractors and utility bodies are all trucks we buy alongside box trucks and standard tractors.
The biggest operation on the island, according to FMCSA’s carrier census, runs one power unit and one driver. If you are an owner-operator selling the only truck you run, have the title, the registration and your service records ready, and we will deal with you directly.
Delta job sites
Contractors and farms around the Delta
The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns records seven construction establishments for the Bethel Island area. A contractor here selling a flatbed, a small dump or a water truck can list the VIN, say where the truck is parked, and note whether it is still on a job site.
Out in the surrounding countryside, Contra Costa County holds 405 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, flower seeds, and bulbs, corms, rhizomes and tubers as the leading listings. Livestock haulers and farm trucks from those operations are commercial vehicles we collect from the farm itself.
A truck titled to a farm or a business should come with the person who can sign for that entity. Have their name ready with the title before we set a pickup.
Buchanan Road
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles issues truck titles through its DMV field offices, and the nearest one to Bethel Island is the Pittsburg office at 1399 Buchanan Road, Pittsburg, 94565, about 13.4 miles away. A Bethel Island owner without the title in hand can apply for the duplicate at that Buchanan Road counter.
Bring the VIN and your registration card when you visit Buchanan Road, and tell us when you have applied, so we can line up the rest of the sale around the new document.
Where three Air Resources Board truck rules stand
On the California Air Resources Board’s own notice, the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested. For the California Air Resources Board’s 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements, a federal court order has left enforcement paused.
Bethel Island owners should also know that the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements has been repealed, according to the Air Resources Board’s rulemaking record. Whatever their status, a seller on the island still hands over the same three things for us: the title, the registration and clear photos of the truck.
The questions we get asked in Bethel Island
- My truck is parked near the Byron gravel plants. Do I have to bring it onto the island?G3 Enterprises Byron Plant and Kellog Creek Aggregates Inc sit about 11.6 and 11.9 miles south of Bethel Island on Mine Safety and Health Administration listings, and we collect the truck where it is parked there. Give us the gate and a contact who can let our driver in.
- Bethel Island is a one-truck operation for me. Will you collect a single tractor from the island?Every operator on Bethel Island in FMCSA’s carrier census is small, with the largest running one power unit and one driver, so single-truck sellers are the norm here. Gather the VIN, a few photos of the cab and frame, and the title for that one Bethel Island rig.
