The mine road
Hauling beside the Boron Operations pit, two miles out
Two miles and a tenth west of the town centre, Boron Operations appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as an industrial-mineral mine. A truck that has spent its working life hauling in and out of that site is often still parked near the mine road or at a yard in town, and that is where we would collect it. Tell us the gate or lot it sits behind and who can let a driver in.
Of the 922 jobs located in Boron in 2023, 673 were in mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction, a 73 percent share on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. If your tractor, dump truck or service rig did contract work for the mine, keep the site safety sheets and any service log with it. Those papers tell us what the truck did without anyone having to guess from photos alone.
Edwards Air Force Base and the road south-west
Edwards Air Force Base lies 13.7 miles south-west of Boron, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which lists it as a military installation. Water trucks, flatbeds and box trucks that served contractors on or around the base can be sold from wherever they now stand, in the settlements between the two or back in Boron itself.
Before we schedule a pickup near the installation, confirm that the truck sits outside any controlled gate, or name the person who can escort a driver through. Have the title and current registration in the cab or in your hand, and send photos of the cab, the frame, the tires and the VIN plate in daylight.
Quarries north at Sydney Peak and east at Lynx Cat
Sydney Peak Stone, a dimension-stone quarry, is 20.2 miles north of town in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, while the same agency places LYNX CAT QUARRY, another industrial-mineral mine, 24 miles to the east. Haul trucks and lowboy tractors moving block and aggregate out of those two sites may sit idle at the quarry between jobs.
If yours is parked out at one of those quarries rather than in Boron, give us the nearest crossroads and a phone number for whoever runs the site. Mention any attachments, a dump body, a water tank or a crane, and include them in the photos so the description and the pictures agree.
A missing pink slip and the Lancaster counter
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles issues and replaces vehicle titles through its DMV field offices. The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles lists its Lancaster field office at 721 W Ave L6, Lancaster, 93535, 37.1 miles from Boron.
Should the pink slip be missing, start the duplicate at the Lancaster office before you contact us, and bring the registration card and your identification. A title in the seller’s name, with any lienholder signed off, lets the sale close without a second trip to Lancaster.
Dairy, cattle and cotton beyond the desert
Across Kern County as a whole, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,691 farms, with milk, cattle and cotton as the leading products. Livestock haulers, feed trucks and cotton module trucks registered in Boron may spend their seasons out in the valley rather than near the mine.
A farm truck is welcome whether it is kept at a ranch, a dairy or a shed behind the house. Note the season it last worked and the body type, and have the registration current or the last renewal notice to hand.
Where the California clean-truck rules stand
California’s Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage, high-priority and federal fleets have been repealed, and enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission vehicle sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks is paused. Meanwhile the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is still under dispute, with its status listed as contested.
None of that stops a Boron owner from selling a diesel truck today. Keep the engine label and any emissions paperwork you hold together with the title, since those documents describe the truck as it was certified.
