Camino’s small intrastate operators
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 29 active motor carriers based in Camino, and 25 of them are registered for intrastate work only, with 4 cleared to cross state lines. For a seller here, that usually means a truck registered and titled in California and parked close to home between loads, which makes collection simple: give us the street address or the yard where it stays.
Seven of those Camino operations run as private fleets under the same federal census, hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. If your truck carried materials for your own business, a contractor’s dump truck or a farm flatbed, it still qualifies; tell us what it hauled and send the registration card along with photos of each side.
The three biggest operations on file with FMCSA are small: eight power units with seven drivers, six units with four drivers, and four units with a single driver. Owners of fleets this size who are letting go of one or two tractors can list each by VIN, and we handle them one at a time from wherever they sit.
Bunks and boxes
Log trailers, general freight and farm supplies
General freight is the most common cargo among Camino carriers in FMCSA registrations, at 8 operations, followed by logs, poles, beams and lumber at 5. A log truck with its bunks and stakes, or a day cab that pulled lumber loads off the ridge, is the kind of equipment we pick up; photograph the trailer setup as well as the tractor so we know what is coming with it.
Three carriers here list farm supplies and another three list intermodal containers in their federal filings. If your rig handled feed, fertilizer or container moves, note that when you reach out and include the body or chassis type, since that tells us what to bring for loading.
Federal carrier records show one new Camino operation registering in 2024 and one more in 2025. A newer owner-operator selling a first truck should have the title in hand, the current registration, and any lien release from the lender if the truck was financed.
Stone pits southwest and west of town
Diamond Quarry, a crushed-stone operation, lies about 5.6 miles south-west of Camino according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Dump trucks and end-dumps that shuttle rock from a pit like that often stay parked at the site; if yours is there, tell us whether the gate is locked and who can let a driver in.
Farther out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration places Chili Bar Slate about 7.7 miles to the west and the Big Seam metal mine roughly 20.6 miles north-west. Trucks that work these sites can be collected from the mine yard itself, with no trip down to Placerville first. Confirm access and send a photo of the VIN plate.
Cold Springs Road and a missing certificate
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles through its DMV field offices, and the nearest one to Camino is the Placerville office at 2919 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, 95667, about 7.8 miles away. If your certificate of title is missing, start a duplicate there before you sell, and bring your ID and the VIN.
When the title is in the name of a business or a former partner, the Placerville field office can also process the transfer paperwork. Have the signed title, a bill of sale and the registration ready together so the change of ownership is recorded cleanly.
Orchards and ranches
Cattle, Christmas trees and the farm trucks behind them
Around Camino, the leading El Dorado County farm products in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture are cattle and cut Christmas trees, across 1,204 farms countywide. Stake beds, livestock haulers and flatbeds used for tree season often sit idle for months at a ranch or lot; we can collect from the farm, so share the gate location and any seasonal access limits.
Census Bureau County Business Patterns records 19 construction establishments in the area, and the LEHD job counts put local employment at 500 for 2023. Contractors parking a dump truck, a water truck or a utility body between jobs can send photos from the job yard and the registration, and we will arrange pickup there.
Where the state’s truck regulations stand
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, and enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is paused under a federal court filing. A Camino owner deciding when to sell can note that both remain unsettled rather than final.
The Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements have been repealed, according to the state air board’s rulemaking record. An El Dorado County owner selling a tractor today needs the usual paperwork: title, registration and photos.
The questions we get asked in Camino
- Can a dump truck parked out at Diamond Quarry be collected from the pit?Diamond Quarry sits about 5.6 miles south-west of town by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we collect from sites like it; tell us who can open the gate.
- Which DMV office near Camino replaces a lost certificate of title? The Placerville DMV field office at 2919 Cold Springs Road, about 7.8 miles from Camino, is the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles office closest to town for a duplicate title.
- Do you buy log trucks from the El Dorado County ridge?Five Camino carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber in FMCSA’s carrier census, and log trucks and their trailers are on our list; send photos of the tractor and the bunks.
- Is a Camino tractor registered for intrastate hauling only still something you buy?Twenty-five of Camino’s 29 active carriers are intrastate-only in FMCSA records, so a California-registered truck is the usual case here; have the title and current registration ready.
