Produce, farm supplies and dry bulk out of Caruthers
Caruthers is home base for 108 active trucking operations on FMCSA’s carrier census, in a farm town south-west of Fresno. In that census, 53 list general freight, 21 fresh produce, 17 farm supplies and 14 dry bulk commodities. If your tractor or straight truck has pulled reefers at harvest or hauled feed and fertilizer to growers, tell us which loads it carried; that tells us what body or trailer setup to expect when we look at it.
Ninety of the town’s carriers run intrastate only, with 17 authorised for interstate work and 29 operating as private fleets, according to the same federal census. A private-fleet truck that served one farm or packing operation is usually titled to that business, so have the name on the title match the person or company signing the sale.
FMCSA’s carrier census records 9 operators in town that registered in 2024 and 6 more in 2025. If you set up a small operation in those years and now want out of a truck, the registration card and the title together are the two papers we need first.
From one-truck owners to a fleet of over a hundred tractors
The biggest fleet registered in town runs 104 power units with 66 drivers, per FMCSA’s carrier census, while the next two run 29 and 14 power units. Selling several trucks at once from a yard near Caruthers works the same way as selling one: send a list of VINs and where each unit is parked.
Across 29 local carriers that reported mileage, the median works out to 16,667 miles per truck a year in FMCSA’s census figures. Note your own truck’s odometer and its VIN before calling, and the first conversation about a Caruthers truck can begin there.
Roadside checks give a picture of the trucks themselves. Sixty-seven trucks from Caruthers carriers were stopped between September 2024 and August 2026 in FMCSA roadside inspection records, with 2016 as the median model year and 47.76 percent at ten or more model years. Send any inspection reports you kept from those stops along with your photos.
Dairies, cattle and cotton gins
Around Caruthers, the county had 4,427 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, milk and cotton listed first among its products. A truck that ran feed to dairies or bales to a gin is often parked at the farm itself, and we collect it there; send the ranch address and a gate contact.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 580 jobs in Caruthers, 64 of them in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, about 11 percent of the total. If the truck belongs to a farm employer rather than to you, the business owner or an officer of the company signs the title.
Building work also runs out of the area, where 13 construction establishments appear in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Dump trucks, water trucks and flatbeds from that trade are trucks we purchase too; photos of the bed or body alongside the cab help us see the whole unit.
Bulk terminals east, rail yards north-east
Van-G Logistics runs a liquid bulk terminal 6.9 miles east of Caruthers, with a second Van-G site 12 miles east, both on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list. Tank trucks and tractors that pulled liquid loads to those sites can be picked up at whichever yard they now sit in.
Ten point eight miles north-east, the Energy Information Administration records the Fresno petroleum product terminal. Calwa Yard lies 12.2 miles north-east and Fresno Yard 16.8 miles north, both in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that has worked drayage between those yards needs only its title, keys and a clear spot for loading when we arrive.
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Sanger Aggregate Plant 20.8 miles east of town. A dump truck or transfer rig that hauled rock from that plant is collected where it is parked, so give us the address and say whether the lot is open to visitors.
Replacing a pink slip from Caruthers
Titles in this state are issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, which handles transfers and duplicates through its DMV field offices. The closest one to Caruthers is the Fresno field office at 655 W Olive Avenue, Fresno, 93728, about 15.1 miles from town on the DMV’s own office list.
If the title is lost, request the duplicate at that Fresno office before we schedule collection, and bring the registration card and your identification. Tell us at the outset if a lender is still on the title, so the lien release is part of the plan from the first conversation.
Where the Air Resources Board rules sit for a Caruthers seller
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, and the state’s sales requirement for zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty trucks by 2036 has its enforcement on hold under a federal court filing. Caruthers owners selling a diesel tractor can go ahead without waiting on either.
Separately, the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation’s drayage, high-priority and federal fleet requirements have been repealed, per the Air Resources Board’s rulemaking notice. For a truck that served the Calwa or Fresno rail yards, that means the sale needs the same papers as any other: title, registration and keys.
The questions we get asked in Caruthers
- The tractor is parked on a dairy outside Caruthers - does it have to come into the city first?Fresno County’s 4,427 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture include plenty of dairy and cattle operations, and we collect from the farm itself. Give us the dairy’s address and a contact on site for the pickup.
- I run a private fleet for a farm outside Caruthers; can we sell our whole set of trucks together?Caruthers has 29 private fleets in FMCSA’s carrier census, and selling more than one unit is routine for us. Send a list of VINs with where each truck is parked, and have a company officer ready to sign the titles.
