Quarry and gravel loads out of the Jackson Valley
Head 10.6 miles east of Clay and you reach Jackson Valley Quarry, where the Mine Safety and Health Administration records crushed stone coming out of the ground. A tandem dump or end-dump that has hauled rock off that pit can be sold from the yard it sits in; send us the VIN, the plate and a few photos of the bed and the cab, and we will arrange to collect it there.
A short way past it, the USMC Ione Plant runs sand and gravel 11.6 miles east, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration also records Knife River’s sand and gravel site 13 miles to the south-east. If your rig ran aggregate between those pits and job sites, tell us which one it last worked from, so the driver we send knows which gate road to take.
Fuel and asphalt racks at Elk Grove
Two petroleum product terminals appear in Energy Information Administration listings about 12 miles west, at Elk Grove: one at 11.7 miles and the Elk Grove Asphalt Terminal at 11.9. Tankers and asphalt distributors that loaded at those racks are trucks we buy, and any tank inspection or service records you kept should travel with the sale.
If the tractor still carries placards or the trailer is coupled, say so when you first get in touch with us. We plan the pickup around whether the unit is a bobtail tractor or a tractor still hooked to its tank, and an address near the Elk Grove terminals is as good as one in Clay itself.
Freight yards on the diagonals
A rail yard toward Lodi and another to the north-west
Lodi Yard sits 13.6 miles to the south-west, and Polk Yard is 19.9 miles to the north-west, according to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttled loads between those yards and the valley can be picked up wherever they are parked.
Give us the street address or the cross roads of the lot, plus the name of someone who can unlock it. We collect a tractor parked near either yard right where it is.
Tankers and stock trucks off Clay-area ranches
Clay’s ranches are part of a farm count of 1,118 for Sacramento County in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, where milk leads the products, ahead of corn and then cattle. Bulk milk tankers, grain trucks, silage haulers and cattle pots from those operations all fit what we purchase.
A farm truck often sits behind a barn between seasons. Photos taken in daylight from all four corners, a shot of the dash and the title in hand let us move ahead while it stays right where it is parked on the ranch.
Contractors and job-site trucks
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau puts 18 construction establishments in the area around Clay. Flatbeds, stake beds, water trucks and the dumps that feed those crews are all welcome here.
If a contractor’s truck carries a lift gate, a crane or other mounted equipment, list it along with the make and model of the body. Add photos of the equipment too, and keep any inspection papers for it with the truck.
The DMV office at Pixley Parkway in Lodi
A seller in Clay deals with the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles for the title, and its DMV field offices are where that paperwork gets done. The DMV lists its Lodi office at 1222 Pixley Parkway, Lodi, 95240, about 14.5 miles from Clay, and that is where to ask for a duplicate if the title has gone missing.
Bring the registration card and your ID to the Lodi counter, and if a lender is still listed, ask the bank for its lien release first. Once the title shows you as owner, the sale itself can be signed over at the truck.
Three state truck rules a Clay owner may be weighing
Right now the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation from the California Air Resources Board is under challenge. For the California Air Resources Board’s 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements, a federal court filing shows that enforcement is on hold.
The state has repealed the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements. Owners in Clay deciding whether to keep a diesel tractor can set those three standings next to their own plans; none of them stops us from buying the truck.

- Can you collect a dump truck still sitting at the Jackson Valley pit, or must it come into Clay first?Jackson Valley Quarry is 10.6 miles east of Clay on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and the USMC Ione Plant is 11.6 miles out; we collect from either one. Ask the Lodi clerks for a duplicate, then photograph the new title for us when the mail brings it.
