Pits around the hill
Crushed stone south-west, gravel north-east of Crest
Just 2.8 miles below Crest to the south-west, El Cajon Quarry is recorded as a crushed-stone pit by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A dump truck or transfer rig that has hauled rock out of that pit can be collected from the yard, a job site or a driveway up the hill; send us the address and say whether a tow truck can turn around there.
Heading the other way, Turvey’s Granite Pit sits 4.9 miles north-east, and LAKESIDE - VIGILANTE AGGREGATES runs 8.5 miles to the north-west, both recorded by MSHA as sand and gravel operations. If your truck splits its week between them, photograph the bed, the tailgate and the axles along with the cab so the pictures show the hauler as it actually works.
Farther out toward the north-west, Santee Aggregates is a second crushed-stone quarry, 10.4 miles from town by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing. Owners whose trucks are parked at a pit gate rather than at home should give us the name of whoever controls access, and we will set the collection up with that person.
Crest payrolls
Construction makes up nearly half of the local workforce
Construction accounts for 45.9 percent of jobs counted in Crest, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) for 2023. For a seller, that usually means a contractor’s dump truck, a flatbed or a service body, and it helps to have the registration card and any service invoices in one folder before you call.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD counts put 101 of the 220 positions recorded in town in construction for 2023. Whether you own one truck or several, tell us the year, make and VIN, and the questions that follow are about that one unit.
Military bases, the bay port and a fuel terminal
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places Marine Corps Air Station Miramar 13.8 miles west of Crest and the Mission Gorge Rec Area, also a military installation, 13.2 miles in the same direction. A truck kept on or near a base needs a gate pass arranged before collection, so mention the location when you first get in touch.
San Diego Unified Port sits 14.1 miles to the west on BTS records, and the Energy Information Administration lists the MISSION VALLEY petroleum product terminal 14.6 miles out. Tractors that ran containers off the docks or tankers out of that terminal can be picked up in the lot where they stand; bring the title and the current registration to the handover.
Graves Avenue
Where to replace a lost certificate before selling
Titles in this state are issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, which handles transfers and changes through its DMV field offices. The nearest to Crest, according to the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, is the El Cajon office at 1450 Graves Avenue, El Cajon, 92021, about 5.5 miles away.
If the certificate has gone missing, a duplicate from the El Cajon field office lets the sale go ahead in your name. Should a lender still be listed on it, bring the lien release along to Graves Avenue so the new title comes back clear, and keep a copy of the registration with the truck.
Plants and flowers
Foliage, potted plants and cut flowers across the county
Around Crest and the rest of San Diego County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 4,031 farms, and its three leading items there are foliage plants, potted flowering plants, and cut flowers and greens. Box trucks and refrigerated straight trucks that carry greenhouse stock are part of what we buy, and photos of the box interior and the reefer unit help us see the truck.
Growers who keep a stake-bed or delivery truck at a nursery rather than a house can leave it there. Give us the farm’s address and a phone number for whoever opens the gate, and have the title and the registration ready on collection day.
Three CARB truck rules and their status for a Crest seller
The California Air Resources Board reports that its Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, while a federal court filing shows enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty sales requirement paused. Neither status changes what you need to hand over to sell a truck from Crest: the title, the registration and the keys.
CARB lists the Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage, high-priority and federal fleets as repealed. Port tractors that ran drayage out of the San Diego waterfront can therefore be sold on the same paperwork as any other truck in town.
