Quarries in the hills around Day Valley
A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled rock out of Olive Springs can stay right where it is parked; give us the address and a gate contact, and the collection gets planned around the quarry’s hours.
Further west, Quail Hollow Operation is a sand and gravel site 11.7 miles out, and Felton Quarry, another crushed-stone pit, is 13.4 miles away, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. If your truck works the Felton end, tell us the road it sits on and whether a tow rig can reach it.
For any aggregate hauler, have the title, the current registration and the VIN plate photo ready before you call. Photos of the bed, the hoist and the tires alongside the cab let us see the whole truck at once.
Day cabs at Watsonville Yard, tankers at the San Jose Terminal
On the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Watsonville Yard appears twice, at 10.9 and 11.1 miles south-east of Day Valley. A day cab that shuttles freight to and from that yard may be parked in Watsonville rather than at home; either location works, so long as you tell us which one.
To the north, the Energy Information Administration places the San Jose Terminal, a petroleum product terminal, 23.5 miles from town over the hill. Tankers and fuel trucks that load there are on the list of what we buy; send any tank inspection certificates or loading records you have kept along with the photos.
If the tractor stays near San Jose while you live in Day Valley, there is no need to bring it home. We collect it from wherever it sits, and you sign the paperwork from here.
Day Valley contractors
Flatbeds and dump trucks from Day Valley’s contractor yards
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 306 jobs located in Day Valley, and 59 of them, a 19.3 percent share, are in construction. Flatbeds, stake bodies, small dump trucks and service bodies parked in driveways and contractor yards around town are all trucks we purchase.
There are 112 construction establishments in Santa Cruz County, by the count in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If you are a contractor winding down one of those businesses with two or three trucks to clear out, list them together with the VIN of each, and we will arrange one visit for the lot.
Contractor trucks often carry racks, toolboxes or a lift gate added after purchase. Tell us what is bolted on and whether it stays with the truck, so nothing about the collection comes as a surprise on the day.
Nurseries and flowers
Reefers and box trucks from Santa Cruz County nurseries
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 614 farms in Santa Cruz County, and the leading products it names are propagative material, potted flowering plants, and cut flowers and cut cultivated greens. Box trucks, reefers and stake beds from nurseries and growers like these are trucks we purchase.
A nursery truck often sits on the grower’s own property between seasons, down a farm road or behind a greenhouse. Give us directions to the exact spot and the name of whoever can let us in, and include a photo of the box or the refrigeration unit with the cab.
A farm-plated box truck or reefer from a Santa Cruz County nursery still has to carry a title in the seller’s own name. Where that nursery title has gone astray, ask the state’s title agency for a duplicate before you send us the VIN.
Papers for a truck parked at a quarry or rail yard
The documents that matter are the title signed over by the owner named on it, the registration, and any lien release if the truck was ever financed. A missing title is replaced through the state’s title agency, and the replacement must be in hand before the truck changes owners.
Service records, a recent annual inspection report and the odometer reading round out the file. None of those are required, yet each one answers a question we would otherwise have to ask, and that matters when the owner lives in Day Valley but the truck is parked at a quarry or a rail yard miles away.

- Where does a Day Valley nursery grower get a duplicate title for a box truck?Santa Cruz County growers with a missing truck title go to the state’s title agency for the duplicate. Request it first, then contact us with the VIN so everything else is ready when the new title arrives.
- Will you collect three contractor trucks from one Santa Cruz County yard in a single visit?Santa Cruz County has 112 construction establishments in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, and an outfit selling several trucks at once can do it in one sale. List every truck with its VIN and location, and we will plan a single collection.
