Two sand and gravel plants just outside town
A dump truck or end-dump trailer that has hauled out of that plant can be collected from the yard where it is parked; give us the gate details and the name of whoever holds the key.
Cache Creek Quarry, another sand and gravel site on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies 4.3 miles east of town. If your truck runs between the quarry and job sites, photograph the bed, the hoist and the frame as well as the cab, and have the title and registration in hand when you get in touch.
For most sellers here that means a truck with California plates and a California title, so the paperwork stays with one state.
Thirteen of those Esparto carriers are private fleets, hauling their own goods rather than for hire, according to the same FMCSA census. A farm or contractor selling a truck from its own fleet should have the title in the business’s name and a contact who can sign for the company.
On FMCSA’s figures the three biggest fleets in town run 39, 25 and 14 power units. If you are retiring several trucks at once, list each VIN with its location so we can plan one visit for the group.
Freight, grain and farm supplies
General freight is the cargo most Esparto carriers list, with 19 of them on FMCSA’s carrier census, while 6 haul grain, feed and hay and 4 carry farm supplies. Tractors, hay trailers and straight trucks from those operations are all trucks we buy; tell us the body type and what it pulled.
Four local carriers in FMCSA’s census list machinery and large objects, the lowboy and heavy-haul end of the trade. For a tractor that has pulled equipment trailers, note the fifth wheel setup and send the VIN first, since our questions follow from it.
Cattle, rice and wheat around the valley
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 795 farms in Yolo County, with cattle, rice and wheat leading the list. A truck that spends harvest in a field or an equipment shed can stay there; we come to the farm, so share the road access and where on the property it sits.
Farm trucks are often titled to a family member or the ranch itself, so check whose name is on the title before you call. If it has been misplaced, the state’s title agency issues a duplicate, and starting that request early keeps the sale moving.
Drivers working within 100 miles number 105 for Esparto carriers, against 51 who go farther, by FMCSA’s census. For a short-haul truck, the yard or driveway where it is usually parked is the easiest place for us to collect it.
Across the 10 local carriers reporting mileage, FMCSA’s census puts the median at 15,887 miles a truck per year. Have the odometer reading ready with the VIN, along with any service records kept in the cab or the office.
Woodland Yard and the local job base
Woodland Yard sits 14 miles east of Esparto, according to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A truck that shuttles loads to the yard may be parked near Woodland rather than in town; just give us that address.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts show 450 jobs in Esparto in 2023, and its County Business Patterns lists 13 construction establishments. Contractors selling a dump truck or flatbed can have it picked up from the shop lot or the job site, whichever is easier to reach.
