West side loads: hay, produce and dry van freight
Of the 144 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census for Firebaugh, 78 list general freight, 26 list fresh produce, 20 list farm supplies and 18 list grain, feed and hay. A tractor that ran produce off the west side fields and a day cab that pulled hay trailers are both trucks we buy, so tell us which of those loads yours carried.
Most of these outfits stay inside California: the same FMCSA census shows 119 intrastate carriers against 23 that run interstate, and 17 private fleets hauling their own goods. If your truck only ever ran California loads, have the California registration card and the title in your name ready before you call; we check those two papers first.
Owner-operators and bigger fleets side by side
On the FMCSA carrier census, the top Firebaugh outfit fields 151 power units and 143 drivers, the next 31 units and 21 drivers, and the third 14 units and 11 drivers. We buy a single tractor from an owner-operator and we buy several units from a fleet; with more than one, send a list of VINs so each truck can be looked at on its own.
New authorities keep appearing in town: FMCSA records 5 new carriers registered in 2024 and 3 in 2025. If you opened your authority recently and are now selling the truck, keep the purchase papers and the lien release, if there was a loan, with the title so the transfer has a clean paper trail.
Odometers and VIN plates
Local hauls, long runs and the 2018 median tractor
Drivers here split almost evenly on distance, with FMCSA’s carrier census listing 208 drivers working within 100 miles and 211 going beyond it. A truck that stays local is usually parked at a yard or farm near town, while a long-haul unit may be sitting at a terminal elsewhere in the state; either way, give us the exact address where it is parked now and we arrange pickup there.
Across 40 carriers reporting mileage, the median truck covers 38,852 miles a year, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. Read the odometer before you contact us and send a photo of it with the VIN plate, since those two pictures answer most of the first questions about any tractor.
Between August 2024 and August 2026, inspectors stopped 129 Firebaugh-registered trucks, and those FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median build at 2018 with 40.3 percent at ten model years or older. Whatever the model year of yours, the service records you kept belong in the same folder as the title.
Fresno County cattle, milk and cotton
Cattle lead, then milk, then cotton across the 4,427 Fresno County farms tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Trucks that work this county may be parked on a cattle, dairy or cotton farm, so if yours is parked out on a ranch, tell us the road access and whether a gate needs opening.
In the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting accounts for 155 of Firebaugh’s 1,553 jobs, or 10 percent. Seasonal operators who park a truck between harvests can sell it while it sits; send photos of the cab, the frame and the tires from wherever it is stored.
Processing plants, cold stores and building sites near the river
Manufacturing holds 382 of the 1,553 jobs counted in Firebaugh by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, a 24.6 percent share, while transportation and warehousing holds 96, or 6.2 percent. A tractor that shuttles loads between a processing plant and a cold store belongs on the list of what we purchase; say which plant runs it and who can let us onto the site.
Firebaugh has 4 construction firms on the books of the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, and their trucks count as well. Whether it is a dump truck, flatbed or service body, if the truck carries a body or equipment of its own, list it when you write to us so it is part of the description from the start.
Clean truck rules a Firebaugh seller may hear about
For a Firebaugh owner hearing talk about state rules: the Air Resources Board’s drayage and high priority fleet requirements under Advanced Clean Fleets have been repealed, while Advanced Clean Trucks remains contested. Selling a truck in Firebaugh does not wait on either one; the title, registration and keys are what the sale turns on.
A federal court record shows enforcement of the 2036 rule requiring all new medium- and heavy-duty sales to be zero-emission as paused. If someone has told you that rule settles what happens to your diesel tractor, set that aside and send us the VIN and photos as you would for any other truck.
The questions we get asked in Firebaugh
- My truck hauled produce off the west side farms. Do you buy produce tractors?Fresh produce is listed by 26 of Firebaugh’s 144 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and the tractors that pull those loads are trucks we buy. Send the VIN, an odometer photo and a note on the trailer if it comes with the tractor.
- My tractor sits on a dairy off the farm roads near Firebaugh, so must I haul it to a yard in town before you collect it?Fresno County has 4,427 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and many trucks here stay parked on one. Leave it where it is, give us the address and a contact who can open the gate, and the pickup is planned around that spot.
- I run several power units out of a Firebaugh yard; can they all be sold together?Firebaugh fleets of 151, 31 and 14 power units are on file in FMCSA’s carrier census, and selling more than one truck at a time works the same way as selling one. Send a list of VINs with the yard address for each unit.
