South county haulers on the FMCSA register
Mixed loads dominate the Galt register, where FMCSA’s carrier census tags 176 of 368 active outfits as general freight haulers. If your tractor or box truck has spent its working life on mixed freight around the south county, gather the title and current registration before you call, and have the VIN and odometer reading to hand so the first conversation covers the truck itself.
Of those Galt carriers, 301 run intrastate and 66 run interstate, according to the same FMCSA census, with 92 operating as private fleets hauling their own goods. A private-fleet truck often carries the business name on its title rather than a person’s, so check whose name is printed there and have whoever signs for that company available when the sale is arranged.
New registrations continue at a steady pace: the FMCSA census records 21 carriers starting up in Galt in 2024 and 18 more in 2025. An owner-operator who started recently and is now selling should have the purchase paperwork alongside the title, since it answers questions about lien release before they come up.
Grain, feed, hay and farm supplies
Agricultural hauling is a real share of the local carrier base: FMCSA’s census counts 32 Galt carriers moving grain, feed and hay and 26 moving farm supplies. Flatbeds, hay trucks and bulk feed haulers parked on a ranch or at a feed yard can be collected right where they sit, so send us the property address and note any gate or access road we should know about.
Sacramento County had 1,118 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, corn and cattle as its leading products. If your truck has served dairies or cattle operations, send daylight photos of the bed, the frame rails and the tires taken on the farm along with the title details.
Jobs back up the same picture, as the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 436 Galt jobs in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, 8 percent of the 5,438 total. Seasonal operators who park a feed truck between harvests can sell it during the off months without moving it off the farm.
Gravel plants, quarries and fuel terminals
Several sand and gravel sites registered with the Mine Safety and Health Administration lie within reach of town: TRP-Sacramento Plant 16.3 miles north, Concrete, Inc DBA Knife River 16.8 miles east, and Jackson Valley Quarry, a crushed-stone operation, 18.4 miles east. Dump trucks and transfer rigs that cycle between those pits and job sites can stay at the yard; tell us which site and who holds the keys.
The Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals north-west of Galt, the Elk Grove terminal at 8.4 miles and the Elk Grove Asphalt Terminal at 9 miles. Owners of a tanker or asphalt tractor that loads there should keep any terminal access cards and inspection sheets with the truck and mention them when you call.
Mineral processing also runs nearby, with the Florin Plant listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration 16.4 miles to the north-west. If your truck was based at a plant gate rather than at home, give us a site contact who can let the driver in.
Rail yards and construction work
Lodi Yard is 9.9 miles south of Galt and Polk Yard 18.8 miles north-west, both in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from those yards are among the tractors we buy, and a short note on which yard the truck worked helps us plan where to meet it.
Construction employed 331 people in Galt in 2023 according to LEHD, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 91 construction establishments. A contractor selling a dump truck, flatbed or service body should list the attached equipment, such as a hoist, crane or toolboxes, so it is described in writing from the start.
Valley hops versus out-of-state runs
Driver records in FMCSA’s carrier census split almost evenly here, with 396 drivers working within 100 miles and 405 going beyond that radius. If your long-haul truck is out on a run when you decide to sell, tell us where it will be parked when the trip ends and we will arrange collection there instead of in Galt.
The median truck among 100 Galt carriers reporting mileage logs 36,500 miles a year, per the FMCSA census. Have the odometer reading and the most recent service records together, as they are the first two things we will ask about.
Fleet sizes vary widely: the FMCSA census shows one Galt fleet running 81 power units with 51 drivers, another 36 power units with 41 drivers, and a third 25 power units with 15 drivers. A company retiring several units at once can send us one list with every VIN, title holder and parking location.
Across 341 Galt-registered trucks stopped between August 2024 and August 2026, the median model year was 2018 and 33.7 percent were a decade old or older, per FMCSA roadside inspection records. Whatever year your truck is, the year, make and model on the title are what we start from.
California’s clean truck rules are part of the picture for owners here: the state lists its Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements as repealed, and the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation as contested. Owners unsure where their truck stands under those rules can still sell it, and we will ask for the engine model year along with the VIN.
The questions we get asked in Galt
- My feed truck is parked on a dairy outside Galt. Must I haul it off the dairy to sell it?Sacramento County counts milk as its top farm product in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and many trucks here sit on farms, so we collect from the farm itself. Send the address and any gate code.
- My dump truck works out of a gravel plant north of town. Will you collect it at the plant?TRP-Sacramento Plant sits 16.3 miles north of Galt in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listings, and a truck parked at a plant like that can be collected on site. Pass along the name of whoever runs the scale house or yard.
- My company runs several trucks from Galt. Can the whole group of tractors go in one sale?Galt has fleets of 25, 36 and 81 power units in FMCSA’s carrier census, and selling a group works the same way as one truck. Send a list of VINs and where each is parked.
- What paperwork should I gather before I call? With 301 of Galt’s 368 carriers running intrastate in FMCSA’s census, most trucks here carry California title and registration, so have both ready along with the VIN, odometer reading and any service records.
