On the divide
Haulers registered on the Georgetown ridge
For a town of 2,403 people, Georgetown carries 85 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. If you run one of those outfits and want to sell a tractor or a straight truck, we collect it from your yard, your driveway or the job site up on the ridge.
Of those carriers, FMCSA’s carrier census counts 81 as intrastate and just 3 as interstate, with 29 operating as private fleets that haul their own goods. A truck that has only worked inside California is the usual case up here; have the California registration card and the title in hand when you call, and tell us whether the truck belonged to the business or to you personally.
New registrations keep arriving on the ridge: FMCSA’s carrier census shows 4 carriers starting up in 2025 and 2 in 2024. If you bought a truck for a venture that is now winding down, the steps are the same as for a long-running outfit: VIN, photos of the cab and chassis, and the name on the title.
Log trucks, lowboys and general freight off the ridge
General freight leads the cargo list, with 25 carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, followed by 9 hauling logs, poles, beams and lumber and 7 moving machinery and large objects. A log truck with its bunks and stakes, or a tractor with a lowboy for moving equipment, is something we take; list the trailer separately if it goes with the sale.
Three local carriers also move motor vehicles, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. Car haulers and rollbacks are on the list too, and a photo of the deck and the ramps alongside the cab gives us the full picture before pickup.
The biggest fleets based here are small: FMCSA’s carrier census lists one with 7 power units and 3 drivers, another with 6 trucks and 6 drivers, and a third with 4 of each. Selling two or three units from an outfit that size is straightforward; send each VIN and tell us which trucks share a title holder.
Slate and stone
Slate at Chili Bar, stone at Cool Cave
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Big Seam mine, a metal mine, 7.6 miles north of Georgetown, and Cool Cave Quarry, a crushed-stone operation, 9.6 miles west. If your dump truck or end-dump hauls out of either, give us the gate or the yard where it parks between runs and we will plan the collection around that spot.
South of town about 10.1 miles, Chili Bar Slate appears in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list as a crushed-stone quarry. Toward the north-west, 13.4 miles out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Bear River Materials for sand and gravel, and it places the Robinson Gravel Pit on Ophir Road 16.1 miles west.
Farther out at 24.6 miles west, the Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists GMcB Lincoln Pits & Mill, an industrial-mineral mine. Whichever pit your truck serves, a set of service records and photos of the bed, frame and tires helps us match what we see to what you describe.
Ridge runs, valley runs
Mileage and model years on the divide
Among the drivers tied to local carriers, FMCSA’s carrier census places 63 working within 100 air miles and 107 travelling beyond that radius. Wherever your truck is parked at the end of a run, in town or down in the valley, tell us the address and we will come to it.
Per FMCSA’s carrier census, the ten Georgetown outfits that filed annual mileage put a typical truck at 11,667 miles a year. Have the odometer reading ready along with the VIN; those two numbers answer most of our first questions.
Roadside inspections give a picture of the local fleet: FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 25 trucks checked between October 2024 and August 2026, with a median model year of 2016 and 64 percent of them ten or more years old. Older and newer units are both on our list, so send the year and model along with the photos.
Cold Springs Road, twelve miles from the divide
Titles in California come from the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, and the nearest of its DMV field offices to Georgetown is the Placerville office at 2919 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, 95667, about 12.2 miles away. If the title is missing or still shows a lender, that office is where you request a duplicate or clear the lien before we collect.
Bring the registration card, your identification and any lien release to Cold Springs Road. If a business owns the truck, the person signing should be someone the business authorises, and we will tell you which lines on the title to complete.
Builders, ranches and tree farms
Jobs, builders and cattle around El Dorado
Georgetown’s employers account for 419 jobs in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 34 construction establishments. Contractors with a flatbed, a dump truck or a service body can sell those units to us from the job site or the shop.
Ranching and tree farms fill much of the land below town: El Dorado County has 1,204 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, cut Christmas trees and short-term woody crops at the top. A cattle truck or a flatbed used for tree hauling is welcome; tell us where on the property it sits.
California’s clean-truck rules have shifted, according to the California Air Resources Board and federal court filings: the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, enforcement of the 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements is paused, and the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high-priority fleet requirements have been repealed. Georgetown owners can sell a diesel truck to us whatever its engine type.
The questions we get asked in Georgetown
- Do you collect trucks from the Georgetown divide?Georgetown sits about 12.2 miles from the Placerville DMV field office, and we collect from town, the surrounding ridges and the quarries nearby, so the truck stays where it is until pickup.
- Is there a field office down the hill from Georgetown that reissues a missing title? The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles, and its Placerville field office at 2919 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, 95667 is the closest, roughly 12.2 miles from Georgetown.
- Will you take a log truck or a dump truck from a local quarry?Nine Georgetown carriers haul logs, poles, beams and lumber in FMCSA’s carrier census, and quarries like Cool Cave and Chili Bar Slate sit within about ten miles; log trucks and dump trucks from that work are both on our list.
- Do you buy trucks from Georgetown carriers that never crossed the state line?Georgetown’s carriers are 81 intrastate to 3 interstate in FMCSA’s carrier census, so a California-only truck is the normal case here, and we buy it with its California title and registration.
