Forty-nine small outfits on the valley roads
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 49 active carriers based in Hayfork, and 48 of them run intrastate only, with a single interstate operator among them. A tractor or straight truck from this town has most likely spent its working life on California roads, so a California title and current state registration are the two papers to find before you call us.
Twelve of those Hayfork carriers are private fleets, according to the same federal carrier census: a ranch, a contractor or a business hauling its own goods rather than freight for hire. If your truck belonged to a business like that, have the name on the title match the person or company selling it, or bring the paperwork showing who can sign for it.
On FMCSA’s census, the top fleet here has five power units and two drivers, and the next two have two units apiece. Selling one truck out of a yard that size is the normal case for us; send the VIN, a few photos of the cab and chassis, and tell us where it is parked.
Bunks, lowboys and packer bodies off Hayfork Creek
Lumber is on the list: four Hayfork carriers declare logs, poles, beams and lumber as cargo in FMCSA’s census, and another four declare machinery and large objects. A log truck with its bunks or a tractor that has pulled an equipment trailer up the Hayfork valley is a truck we buy, and photos of the bunks, the trailer hitch and the frame tell us what we are looking at.
General freight is the most common declaration, at nine carriers on FMCSA’s census, and three more list garbage, refuse and trash. Box trucks, flatbeds and roll-off or packer trucks from those operations all qualify; tell us what body is mounted and whether a trailer goes with the sale.
Toward the quarry
The La Grange Mine stone quarry
About 12.6 miles north-east of Hayfork, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists La Grange Mine as a dimension-stone quarry. Dump trucks and flatbeds that have hauled block or cut stone from a site like that are part of what we collect.
If the truck is still parked at the quarry or on a ranch road out that way, we come to it. Give us directions past the last paved turn, a gate code or a contact who can let us in, and say whether a loaded or empty truck will be waiting.
A lost or misplaced California title is replaced through the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, and its nearest field office to Hayfork is the Weaverville office at 1511 Main Street, Weaverville, 96093, about 14.4 miles away. Start the duplicate there before the sale if the original cannot be found.
Bring the registration card, your identification and any lien release with you to Weaverville. If a lender is still shown on the title, the release from that lender has to travel with the truck, so ask for it early.
Cattle, cut flowers and hogs
Cattle head the list of what Trinity County produces, and USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 139 farms across the county, with cut flowers and cultivated greens and hogs following. Stock trailers’ tow units, feed trucks and ranch flatbeds that work those operations around Hayfork are trucks we buy.
For a ranch truck, the title may sit in the ranch’s name rather than yours. Check whose name is printed on it, and if a family member or partner has to sign, line them up before the pickup day.
Hayfork contractors, crews and the CARB rule status
Hayfork held 308 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, while four construction establishments appear for the area in County Business Patterns. A contractor’s dump truck, a utility body or a crew truck from one of those builders is welcome; send the body type with the VIN.
On California’s clean-truck rules, the California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement is paused under a federal court filing, and the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high-priority fleet requirements have been repealed. None of that changes what a seller in Hayfork needs to hand over: the title, the registration and the keys.
