Beside the tracks
Bakersfield Yard and Seguro Yard on Hillcrest’s west side
Just 1.2 miles west of Hillcrest, the Federal Railroad Administration and Bureau of Transportation Statistics rail map places Bakersfield Yard on the rail line nearest the town’s western streets. A tractor or straight truck that moves transload freight off that yard can be collected wherever it is parked between runs; send us the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Seguro Yard, another rail yard in the North American Rail Network, is 3.9 miles to the north-west. If your truck shuttles between the two yards, bring the title, the current California registration card and the most recent inspection report to one place before you contact us, and photograph the VIN plate with the cab.
Terminals north-west and west of Hillcrest
The Energy Information Administration lists the Bakersfield Asphalt Terminal, a petroleum product terminal, 3.7 miles north-west of Hillcrest, and a second terminal under the Bakersfield name 5.1 miles west. Tankers and asphalt tractors that load at those racks can stay on the lot where they sit; tell us whose property it is so pickup is arranged with the site.
Tricor Refining, recorded as a liquid bulk terminal by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, is also 5.1 miles west. If a tank trailer is part of the sale, give us its plate and VIN as well as the tractor’s, and include any tank test certificates you kept so each unit is listed on its own line.
East toward the hills
Edison Sand Pit and the gravel haul
Edison Sand Pit, a sand and gravel operation in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, lies 10.9 miles east of Hillcrest. Dump trucks and transfer rigs working that pit often spend nights near the site; a cross street and a phone number for someone on hand is enough for our crew to find it.
For a gravel truck, photograph the bed, the frame and the cab from both sides, and keep any site passes or scale tickets with the title. Those papers tell us where the truck has hauled without a long call.
Dairies and gins
Milk, cattle and cotton hauling around Hillcrest
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,691 farms in Kern County, with milk, cattle and cotton at the top of the county’s list. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and module trucks from those operations belong on the list of what we purchase, whether they are kept at a dairy or a gin yard.
A farm truck registered to a ranch or a family partnership needs the signer named on the title to handle the sale. Check whose name is printed there before you reach out, and if the title has gone missing, the California Department of Motor Vehicles issues the replacement.
Hillcrest employers and their vehicles
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 1,321 jobs inside Hillcrest for 2023, on Bakersfield’s east edge. Box trucks and service vehicles from small local businesses can be sold the same way as a road tractor: VIN, odometer reading, photos and the name on the title.
If several vehicles come from one Hillcrest business, send a single list of VINs and one contact who can let our crew onto the property. Every unit is then written up separately on the bill of sale.
California clean truck rules for Kern County owners
Per the California Air Resources Board’s 2025 rulemaking notice, the Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage, high-priority and federal fleets have been repealed. CARB’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation, for its part, carries a contested status for Hillcrest fleets.
A federal court filing in the Eastern District of California shows enforcement paused on the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks. None of these rules changes what a Hillcrest seller hands over: title, registration and a clear location for the truck.
