Hillsborough’s eighteen registered haulers
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 18 active carriers based in Hillsborough, 16 of them operating intrastate, 2 crossing state lines and 3 running as private fleets. Give us the street address where your truck is garaged and say whether it sits on a driveway, a lot or a jobsite.
General freight is the cargo five of those Hillsborough carriers declare, according to the same federal census, with two hauling beverages, one carrying refrigerated food and one handling garbage and refuse. Tell us which of those loads your truck carried and whether it has a box, a reefer unit or a packer body, with a photo from each side.
The census also records new registrations by year: one Hillsborough carrier signed on in 2025 and none in 2024. If your authority is that recent, keep the USDOT number handy with the title and registration.
Outfits and drivers
Six-truck fleets and Peninsula runs
The biggest Hillsborough fleet in FMCSA’s carrier census runs 6 power units with 7 drivers, and another lists a single power unit against 36 drivers. With fleets this small, the person selling is often the person who drove it, so have the title in the name on the registration and both documents together before you contact us.
Drivers here mostly stay close: the carrier census counts 89 working within 100 miles and 15 going farther. A truck kept on short Peninsula runs is usually parked locally at night, which is where we would come to collect it, so name the spot and a time someone can hand over the keys.
Hillsborough’s 145 inspected trucks, checked from August 2024 to August 2026, carry a median model year of 2019 in FMCSA roadside inspection records, and 19.3 percent sit at ten model years or older. Whichever side of that line yours falls on, send the VIN first; the year, engine and configuration all come from it.
Those same inspection reports belong in your folder if you kept copies. Gather them with your service records, the registration card and clear photos of the cab, the frame and the tires, and the description we work from will match the truck in front of us.
Rail yards, ports and the Brisbane terminal
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the South San Francisco Yard 7.4 miles north-west of Hillsborough and the Redwood City Yard 9.5 miles south-east. If your truck has been working out of either yard and is still parked near the tracks, leave it there and tell us who controls the gate.
Redwood City’s port sits 8.5 miles east and the Port of Oakland 13 miles north-east, both listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, along with the Pier 80 roll-on/roll-off terminal at the Port of San Francisco 13.4 miles north. A tractor that pulls from those docks may be staged on a terminal lot, so ask the lot operator about access before we schedule a pickup.
Nine point six miles north, the Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal at Brisbane. Fuel haulers who load there should say what tank or trailer the truck pulled and keep any terminal paperwork with the title.
Contractors, aggregate and nurseries
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau counts 160 construction establishments in the Hillsborough area against 3 in warehousing. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from building work often sit at a yard or a client’s site, so tell us exactly where yours is parked and whether a tow truck can reach it.
Pier 92 Marine Aggregate, a sand and gravel operation 13.1 miles north, appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings. If your dump truck or mixer hauled from that pier, list the body type and capacity plate details when you send photos.
Potted flowering plants top the crop list for San Mateo County’s 250 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, ahead of mushrooms and foliage plants. A reefer or box truck that moved nursery stock or mushrooms from those growers fits what we buy; mention the refrigeration unit’s make and hours in your first message.
California clean-truck rules, as they stand
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage, high-priority and federal fleets are listed as repealed on its 2025 rulemaking page. A federal court filing in the Eastern District of California shows enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement paused, and CARB’s own release describes the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation as amended and still contested.
None of that changes what a Hillsborough seller needs to hand over: the California title, current registration and the keys. If you have CARB compliance or reporting paperwork for the truck, add it to the folder with the rest.
The questions we get asked in Hillsborough
- Can you pick up a tractor sitting at the Redwood City Yard without me driving it to Hillsborough? The Redwood City Yard is 9.5 miles south-east of Hillsborough on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from there. Give us the yard contact so access is arranged.
- Will you deal with a Hillsborough owner who has only one power unit?FMCSA’s carrier census shows a Hillsborough fleet with a single power unit among the town’s 18 active carriers, and single trucks are exactly what we buy. Start with the VIN, then the California title and photos of the cab and frame.
- My reefer moved mushrooms for San Mateo County growers; will you take a refrigerated box truck?Mushrooms rank second among San Mateo County’s crops in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and refrigerated trucks are on our list. Tell us the reefer unit’s make and send photos of it.
