Two yards, one ramp
Hauling boxes between Rowland and COI
Just 3.1 miles north-east of the La Habra Heights hills, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places Rowland Yard. A day cab that shuttles boxes off that yard may be parked there, at a shop in the valley, or in a driveway up the hill; send us the exact address and a note on whether a gate or a steep grade stands between the street and the truck.
Another 3.6 miles due north, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Los Angeles - City of Industry intermodal ramp, and the same rail network lists the COI Intermodal Terminal Yard at that distance too. If your tractor has pulled chassis between those two points, photograph the cab, the frame rails, the fifth wheel and each tire, then include the VIN plate so the pictures and the paperwork line up.
Hillside carriers
Nineteen carriers on the hillside
Of the 19 active carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census places in La Habra Heights, 9 name general freight among the loads they haul. Two more haul machinery and large objects, two carry motor vehicles, and one runs driveaway or towaway work. Whether yours is a box truck, a flatbed or a car hauler, name its body style in the first message so the questions that follow fit that truck.
Sixteen of those carriers are registered for intrastate operation and 3 for interstate, while 4 run private fleets, by the count in the federal carrier census. A truck that has only worked inside California should have its California registration card on hand; one with interstate authority should also have its cab card and any apportioned plate papers ready when we talk.
The biggest operation on FMCSA’s census here runs 5 power units with 4 drivers, the next 4 units and 4 drivers, and a third 2 of each. For an owner retiring one tractor out of a set that size, list the unit numbers and which title goes with which truck, so a two- or three-truck sale stays straight from start to finish.
Tanks toward Montebello
Liquid terminals to the west
Savage Service Corp, a liquid bulk terminal, sits 6.3 miles west of town in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics listing. Further out in that direction, the Energy Information Administration lists the Montebello petroleum product terminal at 10.4 miles. A tank tractor tied to either site often stays near the terminal between loads; tell us where it is parked and who holds the key.
Service records count for a tanker unit, so pull together the inspection reports and any hazmat paperwork that travels with the truck. Where a document is missing, say so up front and describe the routes the truck covered between Montebello and the hills; we ask about the rest from there.
Pits at Irwindale
Sand and gravel up the San Gabriel Valley
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Durbin Plant, a sand and gravel operation, 9.5 miles north, and Irwindale Aggregates 10.6 miles north in the same direction. Dump trucks and transfer rigs serving those pits are welcome sellers; note the bed type, axle count and whether a pup trailer goes with the sale.
Construction accounts for 65 of the 765 jobs counted in La Habra Heights for 2023, an 8.5 percent share on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. If your truck works for a builder rather than a pit, tell us the yard where it stays at night, since that is where we arrange to load it out.
LA County agriculture
Nursery reefers and horse rigs on county farms
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 766 farms across Los Angeles County, with potted flowering plants, mushrooms and equine operations at the top of its list. Reefer box trucks that carry nursery stock and stock trailers rigged for horses both count as commercial trucks to us.
On a farm or ranch property, the truck may sit behind a barn or a locked gate off a private road. Give us a contact on site who can open it, along with the title, the registration and a handful of clear photos taken in daylight.
Titles, registration and the move
California’s title agency issues duplicate titles when the original is lost, and an owner in La Habra Heights should apply there before the sale if the paper cannot be found. A title still showing a lienholder needs the lien release or the lender’s contact, so we can confirm the payoff path with them.
Norwalk 2, a military installation listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 8.3 miles south-west, marks how far from the hills a truck might sit and still be in reach. Wherever the unit is parked, near the rail yards, the Montebello tanks or the Irwindale pits, the sale goes ahead from where it stands.
The questions we get asked in La Habra Heights
- My tractor is parked by the Rowland Yard, not at my house in the hills, so can it be picked up right there?Rowland Yard sits 3.1 miles north-east of town on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from beside it. Name the yard operator or lot owner holding the tractor, and we line up the gate with them.
- My rig hauls cars for a small La Habra Heights outfit. Would you take the car hauler? Two of the 19 carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census here haul motor vehicles, and their rigs fit what we purchase. Send the VIN, the trailer details and photos of the deck and ramps.
- The title for my dump truck is lost, so who in California issues the replacement?California’s title agency issues duplicate titles to La Habra Heights owners; apply there first. Tell us early, and keep the registration card handy to support the application.
