What the town’s registered haulers carry
General freight is the cargo class named by 44 of the 114 active Laguna Beach operators on FMCSA’s carrier census. If yours is a box truck or tractor that has carried mixed loads around the county, tell us the body type and the trailer it usually pulls, and send photos of the cab, the cargo area and the plate.
Nine carriers in town list machinery and large objects and another nine list motor vehicles, according to the same FMCSA census, while eight register for household goods. A car hauler, a lowboy rig or a moving van each has its own equipment to show us, so photograph the ramps, the deck or the liftgate along with the VIN plate.
Of those Laguna Beach operators, the FMCSA register counts 26 as private fleets that move their own goods. If your company truck is titled to a business rather than to you, have the business title and a signer for the company ready before we arrange the collection.
Short-haul work along the coast and the canyon
Ninety-nine of the town’s carriers run intrastate only and 14 cross state lines, the federal carrier census records. For a truck that has stayed inside California, the current California registration card and title are the two papers to find first.
On driver radius, FMCSA registrations count 122 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 85 working beyond it. Among the eight Laguna Beach carriers that report mileage, the census median is 15,000 miles per truck a year; give us the odometer reading with your VIN so we can match the truck to its record.
The three biggest fleets in town, per FMCSA, run 25, 9 and 7 power units, with the largest carrying 50 drivers. If you are selling several units from a fleet that size, list each VIN with its location, since trucks on a small fleet are often parked at different addresses.
Gravel pits to the east, fuel terminals to the north
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Orange County Operation, an industrial-mineral mine, 10.6 miles east of town, and Greenstone Materials Quarry, a sand and gravel site, 12.5 miles east. A dump truck or end-dump trailer that worked those pits can be collected at the yard where it is kept; tell us who holds the gate key.
Further north-east, at 21.5 miles, sits the Maitri Canyon Plant, another sand and gravel operation on the MSHA register. Keep any scale tickets or service logs from aggregate hauling with the truck and send them along with the photos.
Up the coast, the Energy Information Administration records the Huntington Beach Terminal 17.6 miles north-west and the Orange petroleum product terminal 19.4 miles north. Fuel tankers that loaded at either site should come with their tank inspection paperwork and the hazmat placard history if you have it.
Navy and Marine bases, plus a naval rail yard
Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach lies 22.5 miles north-west and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton 23.2 miles south-east, both listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your truck is parked near either base, give us an address outside the gate, since a collection driver cannot always get onto a military installation.
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and BTS, shows the NWS Seal Beach Yard 22.8 miles north-west. A tractor that pulled loads to or from that yard goes on the list with the rest; send its VIN, odometer reading and a photo of the fifth wheel.
Clearances on the roads out of town
In the National Bridge Inventory, Laguna Beach has 17 bridges, none load-posted, and one under 14 feet. The National Bridge Inventory gives that structure, which carries State Route 1 over Victoria Drive, 12 feet 6 inches of clearance; tell us if a tall box truck is parked on the street beneath it.
When you give us the truck’s location, add the overall height if it carries a box, a reefer unit or a rack. Give us that figure with the address, and we will plan the pickup route around the low coast-highway overpass.
Work and fleet
Jobs, builders and the trucks on the road
Of 10,362 jobs located in Laguna Beach during 2023, construction held 440, wholesale trade 232, manufacturing 166 and transportation and warehousing 58, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. County Business Patterns, also from the Census Bureau, lists 74 construction establishments; a contractor’s flatbed, stake truck or dump truck from one of them is a fit for us, with the title in the company’s name.
Twenty-five Laguna Beach trucks stopped for FMCSA roadside inspection from October 2024 through July 2026 show a 2019 median model year, and 12 percent of them were a decade old or more. Whatever the year of yours, send the VIN, the title and a set of photos from all four sides.
Horses, honey and cut flowers top the list for Orange County’s 158 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A stock truck, horse hauler or flatbed from one of those operations is collected at the farm; tell us whether a tow rig can reach the yard.
The questions we get asked in Laguna Beach
- Our dump truck sits in a yard by the Greenstone Materials Quarry east of town. Does it have to come down to the coast first?Greenstone Materials Quarry is 12.5 miles east of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration register, and we collect from there. Give us the yard address and the name of the person who can open it.
- My box truck is parked beneath the low coast-highway overpass in town. Is the clearance a problem for pickup?State Route 1 crosses Victoria Drive at 12 feet 6 inches, per the National Bridge Inventory. Tell us your truck’s overall height and we will plan the collection route around that structure.
- The truck belongs to my small company, not to me. Which papers should the business pull together?Twenty-six Laguna Beach carriers are private fleets on FMCSA’s census, and many title trucks to the business. Have the company title, the California registration and someone authorised to sign for the business.
- Our tractor is parked just outside Camp Pendleton. Will a collection driver be able to reach it there?Camp Pendleton sits 23.2 miles south-east of Laguna Beach, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Give us an address off the base, or tell us who can escort a driver in, and we will set the pickup there.
