Gravel and quarry work south of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Coast Aggregates Big Rock Creek, a sand and gravel operation, 6 miles south-west of Lake Los Angeles, and Big Rock Creek Quarry, an industrial-mineral mine, 6.8 miles to the south. If your end dump or transfer truck hauls out of either pit, it can stay parked at the yard or at your place; give us the address and a name to call at the gate.
Hauling rock up and down the creek road leaves an owner with a stack of scale tickets and service invoices. Pull the service invoices together with the title before you call us, and photograph the bed, the hoist and the cab so the truck we see in pictures is the one we collect near the quarry.
Pits to the west and the clay at Acton
A third sand and gravel operation, listed under the name Palmdale, lies 9.7 miles west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s roster. Farther out, Acton Clay Quarries, an industrial-mineral mine, sits 21.9 miles to the south-west in Mine Safety and Health Administration records.
A truck that rotates between the Palmdale pit and the Acton clay quarry may be parked at either end of that run on the day you decide to sell. Name the site and any gate code, and we meet the truck there instead of in Lake Los Angeles.
Air Force sites
Trucks that work the military installations
Air Force Plant 42 lies 14.7 miles west of Lake Los Angeles, and Edwards Air Force Base is 19.4 miles north, both listed as military installations by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your box truck, flatbed or tractor has run deliveries to either one, the base pass belongs to you, not the truck, so we never need it to collect.
What we do need is the registration in the name on the title and a note of where the truck is kept between runs to Edwards or the Air Force plant. If it sits on a contractor’s lot near the base, give us the contact who controls that lot so the visit can be arranged with them.
A small job base and the trucks that serve it
Lake Los Angeles counted 528 jobs in 2023 according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES), with a population of 13,051 on the Census Bureau’s figures. Water trucks, dump trucks and service-body pickups owned by one driver are all trucks we buy here.
For a single-truck owner, the paperwork is usually all in one drawer at home. Have the title, current registration and any smog or inspection certificates in hand, and if the title has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues a replacement before the sale can close.
Nurseries, mushrooms and horses across the county
Potted flowering plants, mushrooms and horses lead the 766 farms that USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture tallies across Los Angeles County. Around the Antelope Valley that means stake beds, reefer box trucks and horse-hauling rigs parked on ranch land as well as in town.
If yours is a nursery delivery truck or a tractor that pulls a horse trailer, send photos of the body or the hitch along with the cab and the VIN plate. A truck kept on acreage outside Lake Los Angeles is collected where it sits, so include directions past the last paved road if the property needs them.
CARB truck rules as they apply in the Antelope Valley
The California Air Resources Board repealed its Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage, high-priority and federal fleets, and its Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is listed as contested. A federal court order in the Eastern District of California has paused enforcement of the zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
None of that changes what we need from a seller in Lake Los Angeles: the VIN, the engine model year from the emissions label under the hood, and the title. Photograph that label clearly, since it answers the compliance questions before we ask them.
The questions we get asked in Lake Los Angeles
- Can my end dump stay at the quarry on Big Rock Creek for pickup?Big Rock Creek Quarry sits 6.8 miles south of Lake Los Angeles on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from the pit yard itself. Give us the quarry office’s phone number and we clear the visit through them.
- I drove the truck on runs to Edwards Air Force Base. Do you need the base pass?Edwards Air Force Base lies 19.4 miles north of town on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ list, but the pass stays with you; the truck only needs its title and registration to change hands.
- My horse-hauling rig is kept on a ranch outside town. Must I haul it off the ranch and into town before you collect?Equine operations rank among the top farm types in Los Angeles County in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and rigs kept on ranch land are collected right where they are parked. Send us directions and a photo of the hitch.
