Granite, sand and crushed stone east of San Diego
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Lakeside - Vigilante Aggregates, a sand and gravel operation, 4.1 miles north-west of town, and Turvey’s Granite Pit 5.1 miles east. A dump truck or transfer rig that loads at either pit can be sold from the yard where it is parked between hauls; send the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Further out, El Cajon Quarry is 6.4 miles south and Santee Aggregates is 7.2 miles west, both crushed-stone quarries on the MSHA register. If your tractor or tandem has been pulling rock from those two, photograph the bed, the tailgate and the VIN plate along with the cab, and keep any scale tickets or site logs you still have with the title.
Lowboys, log trucks and roll-offs on the federal register
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 394 active carriers based in Lakeside, of which 169 list general freight, 43 haul machinery and large objects, 31 carry logs, poles, beams or lumber, and 27 move garbage and refuse. Whether yours is a lowboy tractor, a log truck or a roll-off, tell us the cargo it carried and the body or trailer setup it runs with.
Of those 394, the same federal census shows 353 operating intrastate only and 41 crossing state lines, with 176 running as private fleets that haul their own goods. A truck plated and used only inside California is still one we collect here; have the California registration card and the title in the owner’s name ready before pickup.
The federal carrier census also shows 17 carriers here first registering in 2025 and 15 in 2024. If you started a one-truck outfit in that stretch and are winding it down, the title, your USDOT number and a current registration are the three papers to put together first.
From one truck to a yard full
Among Lakeside’s carriers on the FMCSA register, the three biggest run 67, 53 and 47 power units, with 60, 38 and 84 drivers respectively. If you are selling several units from a yard that size, a single list with each VIN, unit number and title status lets us plan one collection rather than several.
For 99 local carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covers 13,000 miles a year. A rig with that kind of short-haul pattern is usually parked close to home at night, so tell us the yard or driveway where it stays and whether a tow truck can get in and back out.
A 2017 median on east county inspection stops
Across 253 trucks inspected at the roadside between September 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2017. Write the year, make and model in your first message so we know which truck we are talking about from the start.
Of those same 253 trucks in federal inspection records, 35.6 percent were ten or more model years old. Any model year is welcome; a recent inspection report or service invoice, if you have one in the cab, belongs in the same message as the photos.
Construction jobs and nearby sites
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 place 2,419 of Lakeside’s 5,242 jobs in construction, 46.1 percent, alongside 168 in manufacturing, 125 in wholesale trade and 55 in transportation and warehousing. Those workers are spread over 269 construction establishments, a figure from the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If your water truck, flatbed or dump body worked job sites for one of those contractors, tell us whether it is registered to you or to the business so the right name signs the title.
West of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists Marine Corps Air Station Miramar at 10.6 miles and San Diego Unified Port at 12.7 miles, and the Energy Information Administration places the Mission Valley petroleum product terminal 13.3 miles out. A tractor that hauled to the port or the terminal can be collected wherever it now sits; give us the address and any lot rules for entry.
Nursery and flower trucks
Foliage plants lead San Diego County’s farm output, ahead of potted flowering plants and cut flowers, across the 4,031 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Box trucks and reefers that move nursery stock out of the county’s growers are trucks we buy.
For a farm truck, the title may sit with the nursery business rather than a person. Bring the business’s title and registration, and if the title has gone missing, a duplicate comes from the California Department of Motor Vehicles before collection.
The questions we get asked in Lakeside
- Can my end dump be picked up straight from the Vigilante pit?Vigilante Aggregates is 4.1 miles north-west and Turvey’s Granite Pit 5.1 miles east on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from either one. Tell us the gate hours and who can let us in.
- The pink slip for my Lakeside rig has gone missing; where does a new one come from?California’s title agency is the Department of Motor Vehicles, which issues duplicate titles. Apply there, and send us the registration and VIN meanwhile so the rest can be lined up.
- Would you take a 2017 tractor registered in San Diego County?2017 is the median model year of the 253 trucks in FMCSA roadside inspection records for Lakeside, and trucks of that year and older are all ones we purchase. Send the VIN, the year and a few photos.
- We run a dozen units off a Lakeside yard; can all of them go in one collection?Lakeside fleets on the FMCSA register run as many as 67 power units, and a whole yard can be collected together. Send a list of units with VINs and title status.
