Tank work between East Hynes and Signal Hill
The Energy Information Administration places the East Hynes petroleum product terminal 2.4 miles west of Lakewood and the Signal Hill terminal 3.6 miles to the south-west. If your tractor loaded at either rack, tell us which one and whether a tank trailer stays with it or goes back to its owner, so we collect only what you are selling.
Ventura Transfer Co, a liquid bulk terminal 6.6 miles west on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, is another stop for tank equipment from this side of the county. A tractor that is still parked inside a terminal gate can be sold from there; give us the gate contact and the hours the yard is open.
Drayage off the ICTF and the Rioco and Crutcher yards
Long Beach’s ICTF intermodal ramp lies 6.5 miles west of Lakewood, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and 53 Lakewood carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census list intermodal containers as cargo. A day cab that pulled chassis to that ramp is a truck we buy; send the VIN, the plate and a photo of the door sticker to start.
Rioco Yard at 3.5 miles and Crutcher Yard at 3.8 miles, both north-west of town, appear in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor is dropped at a lot near either yard, the address and a name who can let us in are all the location detail we need.
Carriers that mostly stay in California
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 439 active carriers based in Lakewood, and 365 of them are marked intrastate against 73 interstate. For a California-only tractor, have the California registration card and the title in the name on that card ready before we come.
General freight is the cargo listed by 185 local carriers, with 20 hauling fresh produce and 18 refrigerated food, per the same FMCSA census. If a reefer unit is part of the sale, photograph its hour meter and nameplate alongside the tractor’s dash.
Among Lakewood’s registered operators, 41 run private fleets, and the biggest reports 12 power units with 12 drivers, according to FMCSA records. A fleet owner selling several units at once can send one list of VINs and we will work through them together.
Distance and model year
Route radius, yearly miles and model year
Of Lakewood drivers in FMCSA’s census, 194 work within 100 miles and 348 travel past that line. Where the truck sits on the day of collection matters more than where it ran, so tell us if it is parked out of state or at a customer’s yard.
The median truck here logs 30,000 miles a year, based on what 76 carriers reported to FMCSA. Read the odometer off the cluster and send a clear photo of it, since that number goes straight onto the bill of sale.
Roadside checks of 83 Lakewood-based trucks between September 2024 and August 2026, logged in FMCSA roadside inspection records, put the median model year at 2017, with 31 percent ten or more years old. Whatever the year on your title, the same paperwork applies: title, registration and any service records you kept.
Getting in and out
Bridges, the base and street access
None of Lakewood’s 20 bridges in the National Bridge Inventory are load-posted, and none sit under 14 feet. Tell us whether the truck is on a residential street, in a driveway or behind a locked fence so the right tow setup arrives.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks Norwalk 2 at 4.4 miles north-east and the NG Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base at 5.6 miles south-east as military installations. If your truck is parked on or beside either site, let us know who controls access before we schedule the pickup.
Construction, warehouses and county farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 19,840 jobs in Lakewood, with 702 in construction, 484 in manufacturing and 232 in transportation and warehousing. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks from that work are all on our list; send side photos so the body type is clear.
Lakewood holds 95 construction firms but just 3 warehousing sites, going by the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Across Los Angeles County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 766 farms, led by potted flowering plants, mushrooms and equine operations, and a straight truck from a nursery route sells the same way as a tractor.
The questions we get asked in Lakewood
- My truck is parked close to the Los Alamitos training base. Does that change the pickup?Only in planning. The base sits 5.6 miles south-east of Lakewood on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list; tell us who manages access to the spot where the truck stands and we arrange the visit with them.
- My tractor never left California; which papers do I need for the sale?Lakewood has 365 intrastate carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and for them the title plus the current California registration card is the starting set; add service records if you have them.
