Hay, feed and produce
Laton’s carriers haul off the farms around town
If your tractor or straight truck is one of those general haulers, have the registration card and the title in the same envelope before you call, so the first conversation is about the truck itself.
Seven Laton carriers declare grain, feed and hay, and another seven declare fresh produce, according to the same federal census of motor carriers. A hay squeeze, a grain hopper tractor or a reefer unit that spends harvest season parked at a ranch can be collected right where it sits; give us the gate code or the name of whoever runs the yard.
Five local carriers record farm supplies as a cargo in FMCSA’s listings. Trucks that deliver fertiliser, seed or equipment parts often carry service stickers and fuel logs in the cab; photograph those along with the VIN plate and the odometer, and send them with your first message.
Cattle, milk and cotton on the land south of Fresno
Around Laton, the USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 4,427 farms across Fresno County and lists cattle, milk and cotton as its top products. A cattle pot, a milk tanker tractor or a module truck that works those operations is the kind of equipment we purchase from owners here.
Dairies and feedlots tend to keep trucks on the property between loads. When a truck lives on a ranch, tell us how a collection driver reaches it: whether the lane is paved, whether there is a cattle guard, and who should meet the driver.
For a truck registered to a farm operation instead of a person, have the name on the title match the name signing the sale, or bring the paper that shows who can sign for the ranch.
Bulk liquid terminals, a fuel rack and the Calwa yard
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places a Van-G Logistics liquid bulk terminal 6.6 miles north of Laton, with a second Van-G Logistics site 12.3 miles out in the same direction. Tank tractors that shuttle to those terminals are welcome; mention which hose fittings and pumps stay with the truck when you describe it.
A fuel rack the Energy Information Administration calls FRESNO, a petroleum product terminal, stands 17 miles north of Laton. Fuel haulers often keep hazmat endorsements and tank test records in a binder; those records belong in the cab with the truck when it changes hands.
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, puts CALWA YARD 19.1 miles north of town. If your day cab pulled containers or loads off that yard and is now parked near it, we can collect it there instead of in Laton.
Sanger’s aggregate plants to the north-east
Laton’s closest mine on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s rolls is Sanger Aggregate Plant, an industrial-mineral site 19.5 miles to the north-east. Dump trucks, transfer trailers and end-dump tractors that load there can be picked up at the plant gate if that is where they are parked.
Another 4.2 miles further, at 23.7 miles from town, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records the Sanger Plant sand and gravel operation. County Business Patterns, from the Census Bureau, lists 3 construction establishments in the Laton area; a mixer or a dump body from that work should come with the body’s serial plate photographed alongside the chassis VIN.
Hanford DMV
A lost Laton title goes back through Hanford
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles through its DMV field offices, and the nearest to Laton is the Hanford office at 701 W Hanford Armona Road (corner of W Armona), Hanford, 93230, about 8.7 miles away. If the title is lost, a duplicate comes from there before the truck can change hands.
If a lender is still on the title, ask it for a lien release first and bring that to the Hanford office with you. Once the clean title is in hand, keep it with the registration and your driver’s licence so everything for the sale is in one place.
Small and local
Laton’s fleets are mostly short-haul and in-state
Of the 39 carriers in FMCSA’s census, 35 run intrastate only, 4 operate interstate, and 12 are private fleets hauling their own goods. A farm’s own truck that has never left California is exactly the sort of unit we collect from yards in and around Laton.
Laton’s three biggest fleets field 10, 6 and 6 power units, with 12, 9 and 2 drivers, per FMCSA’s carrier census. Owners with several trucks can sell one or the whole group; list each VIN and where each unit is parked so a single trip can cover them.
Six Laton carriers report annual mileage to FMCSA, and their median is 79,500 miles a truck each year. Note your own odometer reading in your message; it is a neutral figure we use to identify the truck, nothing more.
The state’s clean-truck regulations as they stand
For a Laton diesel owner, the California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation now stands contested. Laton fleets should also know that the California Air Resources Board’s 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements sit under a federal court case in which enforcement is paused.
Around Laton’s ranch fleets, the California Air Resources Board has repealed its Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements. A Laton owner selling a diesel tractor today needs the title, the registration and the keys, whatever those rules do next.
