The operation
Four pits and forty-nine people, in one small place
Four separate mine operations are filed to this place, which is unusual for a town this size. Big Rock Creek Quarry works industrial sand under Granite Construction Company with 5 employees; the Holliday Rock Company plant, the Littlerock Quarry under Hi-Grade Materials and the Palmdale Plant under CalMat all work construction sand and gravel, with 16, 13 and 15 employees. That is 49 people across four pits, all in Los Angeles County.
Four operators in one place means four fleets, four maintenance habits and four different ideas of when a truck is finished. It also means a truck sold here has usually worked a short, heavy haul cycle rather than a long one. Tell us what it hauled and how far, because on this kind of work that matters more than the year on the door.
Those four are why one of them trains every driver at the gate
Those pits sit inside Part 46 of the federal mine rules, which requires site-specific hazard awareness training for over-the-road delivery drivers before they work at each mine site. With four sites filed to one place, a driver delivering across all of them does that four times, separately, and a truck that ran this ground has been through more gates than its mileage suggests.
Big Rock Creek Quarry is the one that is different. Industrial sand is not the same commodity as construction sand and gravel, and the silica rule reaches its sharpest application there: a permissible exposure limit of 50 micrograms per cubic metre, an action level of half that, and a metal and nonmetal compliance date of 8 April 2026 that is now past. That is a property of the material rather than a measurement of that site — we found no exposure figure for Granite Construction Company here and we are not going to invent one.
What runs here
High desert aggregate, and three towns with their own pages
So whatever you drive, the offer does not change — we buy all of them. In this corner of the Antelope Valley that means the pits’ dump trucks and aggregate haulers first, then mixers and flatbeds, box trucks on distribution, and pickups and work trucks everywhere.
Palmdale is next door and Lancaster beyond it, with Acton down the other side of the ridge; all three carry pages of their own, and all three are inside Los Angeles County. It is the same form whichever one you start on.
California weight law
The weight table here is not the federal one
That is state law rather than anything local, and it is the rule truck sellers misquote most often. CVC sections 35550 to 35558 set a statutory range of 34,000 to 80,000 lb by axle count and spacing, and § 35551(a) is a table rather than the federal Bridge Formula — no formula is declared in the statute at all.
The California table does not exactly match the Federal Bridge Table, including at three and four axles. So a configuration that is legal under one can be over under the other, and “it makes bridge formula” is a claim about which table you mean. If someone has told you your truck makes it, that is worth knowing before you repeat it.
Questions we actually get
The four that come up every time
Does it have to run? No. But we buy complete trucks — if the engine, transmission, doors, rear ends, drive shafts, wheels or anything under the hood have been removed, we can’t buy it. A missing bumper is nothing.
Do I need the title? We need a title, unless the truck is old enough that it never had one. If it is lost, that is a replacement through the DMV and we will walk you through it. If there is a lien on it, say so on the form — that is why the question asks whether the title is in hand rather than whether you own the truck, because those are different situations and they go different ways.
What if it has been in a wreck? Tell us what happened and we will look at it as it is. California sets no percentage: CVC § 544 makes it a judgement about whether repair is economical, so nothing is decided by a formula before we have seen the truck.
How does it get collected, and how am I paid? There is no clock on any of this. Up here we can come to you and drive it away, come to you and tow it, buy it remotely and arrange the tow, or you can drive it to us. Payment is cash or electronic payment.
