Sand and gravel loaders just up the road from Los Alamos
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Sisquoc Aggregates, a sand and gravel operation 8.7 miles north of Los Alamos, and the Garey Rock Plant a little further on at 10.6 miles. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that loads at either pit can be collected from the pit yard itself if the operator allows it, so give us the gate contact along with the plate number.
South-east of town, Bee Rock Quarry sits 21.3 miles out according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and it is listed as a crushed-stone quarry. If your truck is parked at a quarry rather than at home, send photos of the bed, the cab and the VIN plate taken where it sits, and tell us the name of the site so we can plan the trip there.
Lompoc stone and minerals
Stone, minerals and the road to Vandenberg
Acin Ranch, a dimension-stone quarry 11.5 miles south-west, and the Imerys Lompoc Plant, an industrial-mineral mine 14.2 miles in the same direction, both appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records. A flatbed that has moved stone blocks or a tractor that pulled mineral loads out of the Lompoc side can be sold from wherever it is kept between jobs.
West of Los Alamos by 16.2 miles, Vandenberg Space Force Base appears among the military installations the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maps. If your truck sits on or near the base, check who has to sign you in before anyone arrives, and pass that name to us with the address so the collection is set up through the right gate.
Santa Maria and Guadalupe yards beyond the hills
Santa Maria Yard is 16.7 miles north-west of Los Alamos, and Guadalupe Yard (SMV) is 22.4 miles out, both on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle loads between those yards and the valley’s warehouses are the kind of tractor we buy, and the VIN and odometer reading are the first two things to send.
One local carrier lists intermodal containers as its cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, and another lists logs, poles, beams and lumber. If yours is one of those rigs, tell us whether the trailer goes with the tractor or stays behind, since that changes what we arrange on collection day.
Los Alamos has 19 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and every one of the 19 is registered for intrastate operation, with none listed as interstate. Four of them run as private fleets carrying their own goods, so a seller here is often a business owner with one or two trucks rather than a trucking company.
General freight is the most common cargo label among those carriers, with two listing it, and one more carries passengers. Whatever the load, keep the California registration card and the title together with the truck’s service records; with those papers in hand, most of our questions are answered before we ask them.
Flower growers
Flowers, nursery stock and the trucks behind them
Around Los Alamos, Santa Barbara County counts 1,359 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and its leading products are cut flowers and cultivated greens, potted flowering plants and transplants. Box trucks and refrigerated straight trucks that carry nursery stock off those farms can be collected at the farm, the packing shed or the grower’s own yard.
The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns records 8 construction establishments in the Los Alamos area, and LEHD job counts from the same bureau put local employment at 347 jobs in 2023. A grower or contractor selling a single work truck gets the same process as a fleet: photos, the VIN, the title and an address.
Titles in this state are issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles through its DMV field offices, which handle transfers and replacements.
For Los Alamos sellers the nearest field office on the DMV’s own list is Lompoc, at 1601 N H St, Lompoc, 93436, about 11.8 miles from town. If the title is missing, start the replacement at that Lompoc counter before the sale, and bring the registration and your identification. Tell us the title is on its way when you first contact us, and we can line up everything else while the DMV finishes its part.
A notice from the California Air Resources Board about amending its clean truck standards leaves the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation in contested status. Enforcement of the California Air Resources Board’s 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements is on hold, as a federal court filing records.
The Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements has been repealed, as the state air board’s rulemaking record shows. A Los Alamos owner weighing a sale can set those rules aside and decide on the truck itself and on when the sale suits the business.
