A town where nearly half the jobs move freight
Of the 564 jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) placed in Los Ranchos for 2023, 264 were in transportation and warehousing, a share of 46.8 percent. If your tractor, box truck or straight truck is part of that work, have the title, the current registration and a few clear photos of the cab, frame and tires to hand before you call us.
That 46.8 percent figure from the LEHD counts puts haulers and warehouse operators at close to one job in two around Los Ranchos. A truck that sits in a yard or behind a warehouse here can stay put; give us the street address, the gate hours and the name of whoever holds the key, and we plan the collection around them.
Santa Margarita Aggregates, a sand and gravel operation listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies 14.5 miles north of Los Ranchos, and the agency also lists the Rocky Canyon Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, 18.1 miles out in the same direction. Dump trucks, transfer trucks and end-dump tractors that haul from those pits are trucks we purchase; tell us which sites yours served and send the VIN first.
Out to the north-west, Whale Rock Quarry, another crushed-stone site on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, sits 21.2 miles from town. If your rig is parked at a quarry rather than at home, we can collect it there, so ask the site office whether an outside driver needs an escort or a sign-in before you book the date.
Two rail yards and a sand pit down the coast
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows GUADALUPE YARD (UP) 17.5 miles south of Los Ranchos and GUADALUPE YARD (SMV) at 18.1 miles. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from rail sidings there are on our list; keep any service records together with the title so the truck’s history travels with it.
Gordon Sand Co, a sand and gravel operation 17.6 miles south on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records, sits beside those yards on the map. A seller with a truck working between the pit and the tracks can leave it where it is; send us the location and a phone number for someone on site.
Base traffic on the north-west side
NG ITC Camp San Luis Obisbo, a military installation on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ map, lies 9.7 miles north-west of Los Ranchos. If your truck delivers to the base or to contractors near it, check with the gate about access before we arrange to collect, or move it to a lot outside the fence.
Box trucks, flatbeds and service bodies that make that run belong in the same conversation as the quarry and rail rigs. Have the registration card, the key and any maintenance printouts in the cab, and tell us whether the truck has a trailer or body that goes with it.
Cattle, transplants and propagation stock
San Luis Obispo County held 2,184 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and propagative material, cattle and transplants headed its list. Around Los Ranchos, that means livestock haulers, flatbeds for nursery stock and reefer units for transplants; any of them can be sold to us from the ranch or the nursery yard.
A truck that spends most of the year on a farm road is often registered to a ranch business rather than a person. If yours is, the name on the title should match the business’s paperwork, so have whoever signs for the ranch ready to sign the transfer when we collect.
Higuera Street
The DMV office 3.9 miles from town
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles through its DMV field offices, and the San Luis Obispo office at 3190 S Higuera Street, San Luis Obispo, 93401, is 3.9 miles from Los Ranchos. If the title is lost, that office is where a duplicate is requested, so start that step before you contact us.
Bring the VIN, your ID and the current registration when you visit Higuera Street. If a lender still appears on the title, ask the lender for a release letter, since we need the lien cleared before the sale can close.
For Los Ranchos owners, the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, according to the California Air Resources Board’s published amendments. The state’s all-zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks is the subject of a federal court ruling, and enforcement of it is on hold.
On the fleet side, the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements have been repealed by the board. A diesel tractor parked south of San Luis Obispo can be sold to us whatever the rule’s status, so ask us if you are unsure what applies to your truck.
