Sell your semi truck for cash in Malibu the easy and convenient way

Malibu sits on the Los Angeles County coast, and the trucks registered here mostly stay inside California: refuse haulers, passenger vehicles, household-goods movers and general freight rigs working between the beach and the quarries and terminals inland.

Selling a truck in Malibu? Tell us about it and we'll take it from there.

Seventy-eight carriers on a short stretch of coast

Of the 78 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in Malibu, 74 hold intrastate registration and only 3 are cleared for interstate runs. A truck from one of these outfits has usually spent its working life on California roads, so its California registration card is the paper to find first when you get in touch.

Private fleets make up 22 of those Malibu carriers in the federal census, meaning businesses that move their own goods rather than hauling for hire. If your truck belonged to a landscaping crew, a property manager or a builder rather than a trucking company, tell us whose name is on the title before we set a pickup.

Among the cargo classes Malibu carriers list with FMCSA, general freight leads at 13 carriers, with garbage and refuse at 6, passengers at 6 and household goods at 4. A packer body, a shuttle bus and a moving box truck each need a different kind of photo, so shoot the body or the passenger cabin as well as the cab and the plate.

Small outfits, a few compact fleets

The three biggest Malibu operations on the federal carrier census run 18, 10 and 2 power units, with 12, 10 and 3 drivers respectively. If you are winding down one of the larger of those yards, send us a list of unit numbers and VINs together, and we can work through the trucks as one sale rather than one at a time.

Per FMCSA’s carrier census, the six Malibu outfits that filed yearly mileage put a median of 8,278 miles on each truck. A photo of the dash showing both the engine hours and the odometer answers two of our questions at once.

New registrations are few here: FMCSA’s census records 1 new Malibu carrier in 2024 and 2 in 2025. If you started up recently and are now selling, have the operating authority paperwork and the bill of sale from when you bought the truck to hand.

Rock, sand and fuel over the hills

The Mine Safety and Health Administration places Pacific Rock Inc, a crushed-stone quarry, 18.6 miles north-west of Malibu, with Tapo Rock & Sand 21 miles north and the Canyon Rock Plant 21.3 miles north. A dump truck or end-dump trailer working out of those pits can stay parked at the yard; give us the gate contact and we collect it there.

Fuel terminals sit on both sides of the hills: the Energy Information Administration lists the Van Nuys terminal 19.8 miles north-east and the El Segundo terminal 21 miles east. If yours is a tank truck that loaded at either rack, keep any site inspection or loading records with the title so the truck’s working history travels with it.

On the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Raymer Yard sits 20.9 miles north-east. For a day cab that has shuttled boxes to that yard, the VIN and the cab-side door sticker are the two things to photograph before anything else.

Point Mugu to the Port of Los Angeles

Westward along the coast, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts Naval Base Ventura County’s Point Mugu Operating Facility 20.9 miles from Malibu. A truck parked on or near a base needs an access contact, so tell us at the start who can sign a driver in for collection.

Eastward, the Port of Los Angeles is 21.1 miles away on Bureau of Transportation Statistics figures. Sleeper and day-cab tractors that pulled containers from the harbor can be sold from wherever they are parked; send the address and say whether a tow truck can reach it from the street.

Malibu builders, wholesalers and county growers

The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts show 5,975 jobs in Malibu in 2023, of them 280 in construction, 211 in wholesale trade and 99 in manufacturing. Malibu also holds 68 construction establishments, a figure from the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Flatbeds, stake beds and dump trucks from that building work are all trucks we buy; have the registration and any service invoices together before you call.

USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 766 farms across Los Angeles County, with potted flowering plants, mushrooms and horses heading the list. A box truck that moved nursery stock or a stock trailer rig that carried horses should be described by its use, so we know which body to look at in your photos.

Clean-truck rules a Malibu owner may ask about

The California Air Resources Board lists its Advanced Clean Trucks regulation as contested, and a federal court record shows enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement as paused. Neither rule stops you selling a truck you already own in Malibu, so you can go ahead with the title in hand.

The Air Resources Board has also repealed its Advanced Clean Fleets requirements for drayage, high-priority and federal fleets. If you held off selling a port tractor while that rule stood, the paperwork we ask for now is the same as for any other truck: title, registration and photos.

The questions we get asked in Malibu

  • My dump truck sits at a quarry yard up past the Malibu hills; does it have to come down to the coast?Pacific Rock Inc sits 18.6 miles north-west of Malibu on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we come to trucks at yards like that one. Tell us who controls the gate so the collection can be arranged with them.
  • Our Malibu landscaping business owns four trucks; could they go in one sale?Malibu has 22 private fleets among its 78 carriers on FMCSA’s census, and owners of more than one truck can send us every VIN in one message. We work through the list together with you.
  • Would you take a Malibu refuse packer that worked only local trash routes?Six Malibu carriers haul garbage and refuse on FMCSA’s carrier census, and local route trucks like theirs are ones we buy. Send photos of the packer body along with the cab.
