Ten small coastside haulers
Of the ten carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census for Montara, none is listed as interstate, nine work inside California alone and one is a private fleet hauling its own goods. If your truck is one of those in-state units, find its California registration card first; we match the VIN on it to the truck at collection.
The cargo lines filed with FMCSA here are single entries: one carrier hauls garbage and refuse, one general freight and one household goods. A refuse body, a box truck or a moving van each sells as it stands; send photos of the body and the chassis plate together so the two can be matched.
The biggest operation on the federal census in town runs a single power unit with one driver. An owner-operator selling that one truck is the usual seller here, so tell us whether it is parked at your house on the hillside streets or kept somewhere else, and how a tractor or flatbed can reach it.
Brisbane and the piers
Yards, terminals and piers over the hill
The South San Francisco Yard sits 9 miles north-east of Montara on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the Energy Information Administration places the Brisbane petroleum product terminal 11.2 miles out on the same heading. A day cab that shuttles between those two sites can be picked up at either one; give us the gate contact and the hours the lot is open.
Further along that line, Pier 92 Marine Aggregate is a sand and gravel operation 15 miles away in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and Pier 80, the Port of San Francisco’s roll-on/roll-off terminal, is 15.2 miles away according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A dump truck or end-dump that loads at the pier should have its registration and any service records in the cab when we arrive.
East and south
From Redwood City’s port to Pillar Point
Due east, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the port at Redwood City 15.5 miles from Montara, with the Redwood City Yard on the rail network 15.8 miles out. A truck kept at a bayside lot is collected from that lot, with no trip back to the coast needed first.
Pillar Point Space Force Station lies 3.4 miles south, a military installation on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics map. Trucks parked near the harbour end of that stretch are close enough to Montara that one address and one phone number are all we need to plan the collection.
When the California title is missing
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles handles titles through its DMV field offices, and the closest to Montara is the San Mateo office at 425 N Amphlett Boulevard, San Mateo, 94401, about 9.5 miles away. If you cannot find the pink slip, start a duplicate there before we schedule the pickup.
A title in a former partner’s name, or one still showing a lienholder, also goes through that same San Mateo field office. Bring the registration and your ID, and tell us at the start where the title stands so nothing holds up the sale.
Construction crews and the coastside nurseries
County Business Patterns counts seven construction establishments for Montara, and their dump trucks, stake beds and service bodies are the kind we buy. Have the equipment list for any crane, liftgate or toolbox fitted to the truck, since those details go into the description we work from.
Across San Mateo County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 250 farms, and potted flowering plants, mushrooms and foliage plants lead their output. A reefer box or a stake truck that ran nursery stock to market is one we collect from the grower’s yard; photograph the reefer unit’s hour meter alongside the odometer.
Three air board rules and a Montara diesel
The California Air Resources Board lists the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage, high-priority and federal fleet requirements as repealed, and enforcement of the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement is paused under a federal court filing. The Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is still listed as contested by the air board.
None of those three rules decides whether we take a diesel truck from Montara. Tell us the engine family and model year printed on the emissions label under the hood, and we will ask any follow-up questions from there.
The questions we get asked in Montara
- My box truck is parked at a lot in Redwood City, not in Montara. Will you pick it up on the bay side?Redwood City’s port is 15.5 miles east of Montara on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, and we collect from that side of the hill as readily as from the coast. Give us the Redwood City lot’s street address and whoever holds its gate key.
- Which DMV office replaces a lost pink slip for a Montara truck? The San Mateo DMV field office at 425 N Amphlett Boulevard, about 9.5 miles away, is the nearest State of California Department of Motor Vehicles location for a duplicate. Start it there and tell us the date you applied.
- I run one intrastate truck with no other drivers. Does a one-truck intrastate outfit qualify? One power unit and one driver is the largest operation FMCSA’s carrier census shows in Montara, so a single-truck owner is exactly who sells to us here. Start with that truck’s VIN, its California registration and photos of the cab and chassis.
