Pits east, west, north
Stone, gravel and mineral sites around Newcastle
Six to eleven miles out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Cool Cave Quarry, a crushed-stone operation east of town, the GMcB Lincoln Pits & Mill to the west, and the Robinson Gravel Pit / Ophir Rd. Quarry to the north. If your dump truck or transfer rig hauls out of one of those sites, tell us which one when you get in touch, and send photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab so we know the setup before we arrive.
Farther north-east, Bear River Materials shows up on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s roll at 12.8 miles, with Chili Bar Slate 18.2 miles east and the Big Seam mine just under 20 miles out. A truck parked at a pit gate or a contractor’s yard up one of those roads can stay where it is; give us the address and a note on how a lowboy reaches it, and we plan the collection around that spot.
Capital Rock LLC, an industrial-mineral mine the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 15.8 miles north-west, rounds out the circle. Whichever site your truck answers to, keep the VIN, the title and any service records together so the paperwork travels with it on pickup day.
Davis Yard and the valley side of the county
South-west of Newcastle by 13.5 miles, Davis Yard is mapped in the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Tractors and box trucks that shuttle freight toward that yard are part of what we purchase, so say whether yours pulls a trailer or carries its own body.
The yard lies down toward the valley and the quarries ring the hills, so a Newcastle truck could be sitting in either direction when you call. Tell us where it is parked today, not where it is usually based, and we will meet it there.
Hill-town haulers
Of the 94 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in this foothill town, general freight is a listed cargo for 24. Twelve declare machinery and large objects, seven haul farm supplies and another seven carry logs, poles, beams and lumber, so flatbeds, lowboys and log trucks sit beside the box vans and tractors here.
Most of those outfits stay inside California: the federal census shows 82 intrastate operations against 12 interstate ones, and 36 run as private fleets moving their own goods. A private-fleet truck sells the same way as a for-hire one; have the title in the company’s name and someone who can sign for it.
The three biggest fleets registered in town field 22, 16 and 15 power units according to FMCSA’s census, and the agency also logged five new carriers in 2025 after one in 2024. Whether you run a single truck or a yard of them, list every unit you want to sell with its VIN and we will go through them one at a time.
Placer foothill mileage and model years
Among Newcastle carriers, FMCSA’s census records 71 drivers working within 100 miles and 132 going farther. For the 20 carriers that report mileage, the median comes to 11,926 miles per truck in a year, a figure from the same federal census.
Seventy-five trucks from Newcastle carriers turn up in FMCSA roadside inspection records between September 2024 and August 2026, with 2018 as their median model year and 32 percent at ten or more years old. Whatever year yours is, a clear photo of the VIN plate and the odometer gives us the starting point for every other question.
Construction town
Newcastle’s construction-heavy job base
Construction held 217 of Newcastle’s 502 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, a 43.2 percent share. Dump trucks, water trucks, flatbeds and service bodies that support building work are all trucks we buy, with or without the equipment mounted on them.
If a contractor is winding down a job or trimming its yard, gather the titles for each truck and note any trailer or attachment that goes with it, so we can collect everything on one trip.
Cattle, horses and sheep across the foothills
Placer County holds 1,093 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and cattle, equine and sheep are its top three listings. Livestock haulers, stake beds and feed trucks that serve those ranches belong on our list, as do the farm-supply carriers counted in town.
A ranch truck often stays on the property between uses. Send us the gate address and a word on the ground it sits on, and we bring the right recovery truck to reach it.
Auburn DMV
Newcastle sellers get their titles through the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles and its DMV field offices. The closest, per the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, is the Auburn office at 11722 Enterprise Dr, Auburn, 95603, about 3.8 miles from town, and that is where a duplicate title is requested if the original has gone missing.
Bring the registration card, your ID and any lien release to that Auburn counter. If a bank still holds the title, tell us the lender’s name and we will work through the release with you before the truck leaves.
Air board standards
The state’s clean truck standards today
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is contested, and a federal court filing has put enforcement on hold for the board’s 2036 100 Percent Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Requirements. Newcastle owners can still sell a diesel truck to us without waiting on either outcome.
California repealed the Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation - Drayage Fleet Requirements and High Priority and Federal Fleets Requirements, so the fleet-purchase mandates in that rule no longer apply. For a Placer County fleet, that means each truck’s title and registration are the documents that matter on sale day.
The questions we get asked in Newcastle
- Can you collect a truck that is parked at a quarry outside Newcastle?Cool Cave Quarry, the GMcB Lincoln Pits & Mill and the Robinson Gravel Pit all sit within about ten miles of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from sites like those. Give us the gate address and any access instructions.
- Will you take a Newcastle log truck or machinery hauler?Seven Newcastle carriers haul logs, poles, beams and lumber and twelve carry machinery and large objects in FMCSA’s carrier census, and we buy the trucks that do both kinds of work.
- Does a ranch truck need anything special to sell?Placer County’s 1,093 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lean toward cattle, horses and sheep; for a truck from one of them we need the title, the VIN and photos, the same as any other truck.
