Dry vans, hay and produce out of Newman
Out of 185 active Newman carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, 99 put general freight among their cargo types. A day cab or sleeper that pulls dry vans for one of those outfits is the kind of tractor we collect here, so have the title and current registration in the cab or close at hand before you call.
Grain, feed and hay show up on the filings of 37 Newman carriers, fresh produce on 22, and logs, poles, beams or lumber on 19, according to the same FMCSA census. If your truck pulled a hopper, a flatbed or a reefer, tell us which trailer it ran with and send a photo of the fifth wheel or the bed so we know the setup before we arrive.
Of those 185 carriers, FMCSA’s carrier census shows 158 hauling only inside California, 27 crossing state lines and 26 running private fleets for their own goods. A truck that never left the state may carry only California paperwork; bring whatever registration and permit cards were issued for it.
Local runs, long runs and annual miles
Drivers attached to Newman carriers split 269 working within 100 miles of base and 194 going farther, per FMCSA’s census. A short-haul truck is most likely parked at the owner’s yard or a farm in the county when we pick it up, so give us the exact spot and a gate contact.
Among the 44 local carriers that report mileage, the median truck covered 49,000 miles a year in FMCSA’s filings. Keep the odometer reading and the VIN together on one sheet; those two lines answer most of what we ask first.
One Newman fleet runs 138 power units with 183 drivers, while the next two field 12 and 9 power units, all as registered with FMCSA. Whether you own one tractor or several, a list of VINs and plate numbers lets us line up every unit in a single visit.
Model years at the roadside scale
FMCSA roadside inspection records from late August 2024 to late August 2026 cover 111 trucks tied to Newman, with a median model year of 2016. Write down the model year as it appears on the title so it matches what we see on the door sticker.
In that same inspection window, 44 percent of the trucks checked were ten or more model years old, as FMCSA roadside inspection records show. Send service records and any recent inspection reports along with your photos, whatever year your truck is.
Knife River, Los Banos and two rail yards
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Knife River Newman Aggregate, a sand and gravel operation 4 miles west of town, and the TRP-Los Banos Plant 21.2 miles to the south-east. A dump truck or transfer rig that has worked those pits can stay where it is parked; send the site address and we route the pickup there.
Kearney Yard lies 13.7 miles north-east and Rogers Yard 19.1 miles north on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor drayed loads to either yard, note which one and whether the truck is still parked near it.
Newman’s construction trade numbers 14 establishments, according to the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. A truck that served job sites for one of them should come with its title, registration and a note of any body or equipment mounted on the chassis.
Dairy and corn ground on the county’s west side
Stanislaus County holds 3,455 farms led by milk, then cattle, then corn, in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Feed trucks, cattle haulers and silage rigs that work those farms are often stored in a barn or field, so tell us whether a loader or tractor can reach it.
Of 1,942 jobs located in Newman in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 253 in transportation and warehousing, 150 in manufacturing and 57 in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting. If the truck is registered to a farm or a processing business rather than to you, have the person who signs for that business available when we collect it.
Titles and newer registrations
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 14 carriers registering in Newman during 2024 and 8 more in 2025. A newly formed operation may still have a lender on the title; get the lien release or the lender’s payoff contact ready before pickup.
California’s Department of Motor Vehicles handles a lost or replacement title for a truck registered in Newman. Apply for the duplicate before the sale if you can, and keep the receipt with the registration card so the transfer can go ahead.
The questions we get asked in Newman
- Can my dump truck stay at the Knife River pit outside Newman for collection?Knife River Newman Aggregate sits 4 miles west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from sites like that. Tell us which bay or stockpile it sits beside at Knife River and who on site can walk us to it.
- I haul hay and feed. Do you take trucks set up for that work?Grain, feed and hay appear as a cargo for 37 Newman carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and those tractors and bodies are among what we buy. Send photos of the truck with its bed or trailer hookup and the VIN.
- Does a Newman truck that stayed in-state sell like an interstate one? Most Newman carriers, 158 of 185 in FMCSA’s census, haul only within the state, and an intrastate truck sells the same way. Keep its California title and current registration card together for the handover.
- Who replaces a lost title for a truck from Newman?Newman trucks are titled through California’s Department of Motor Vehicles, which issues the duplicate. Start that request early and tell us it is in progress when you contact us.
