Valley fuel loads
Tankers headed for the Van Nuys terminals
Two petroleum product terminals listed by the Energy Information Administration, VAN NUYS TERMINAL at 16.7 miles and VAN NUYS at 18.1 miles, both lie north-east of Pepperdine University. A tractor that pulls fuel loads out of either one is often parked in the Valley between shifts rather than on the coast, so give us the street address of the yard where it sleeps.
For a fuel hauler, gather the title, the current registration and any terminal or inspection paperwork the rig carries in the cab. Send photos of the tractor and of the tank trailer too, if one goes with it; we like to see the whole setup before anyone heads over the hill.
Container and rail work from Raymer to the port
RAYMER YARD sits 18 miles north-east and GEMCO YARD 19.3 miles in the same direction, according to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A day cab that shuttles freight to and from those rail yards can be collected at whichever lot it works from; tell us the gate contact.
Eighteen miles east, the Port of Los Angeles appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics port listings. If your tractor has pulled containers off those docks, send the VIN, the odometer reading and a picture of the fifth wheel first, and we will work out the rest of the details from there.
Pits past the hills
Rock and sand north of the campus
The Mine Safety and Health Administration records Tapo Rock & Sand, a sand and gravel operation, 19.6 miles north, with Canyon Rock Plant, an industrial-mineral mine, 20.1 miles north. Dump trucks and end dumps that load at pits like these may be sitting at the plant itself, so let us know who can open the site for collection.
Pacific Rock Inc, a crushed-stone quarry, is 20.3 miles north-west on Mine Safety and Health Administration records. Quarry trucks often carry a site permit or a maintenance log; keep those with the title, and photograph the bed and the cab together so we can match the truck to what you describe.
Campus and county
Jobs and farms in the county
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 1,549 jobs at Pepperdine University for 2023. For a box truck or service body kept on or near campus, we collect it where it is parked; give us the lot and a contact.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lists 766 farms across Los Angeles County, with potted flowering plants, mushrooms and equine operations at the top. Stake beds, reefers and horse-hauling rigs from that work all fit what we buy; have the registration and a few clear photos ready when you reach out.
Repealed, paused and contested rules for Pepperdine owners
The drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements of California’s Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation are listed as repealed, while the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation is listed as contested. Neither status changes the paperwork we ask an owner on this stretch of coast for: title, registration and photos.
Enforcement of the 2036 requirement that all medium- and heavy-duty sales be zero-emission is shown as paused. Whatever a tractor’s engine, an owner near Pepperdine University can sell it to us with the same documents, and we will ask about its history once we see the VIN.
The questions we get asked in Pepperdine University
- My tanker is parked by the Van Nuys terminal, not near campus. Will you pick it up on the Valley side? The Energy Information Administration places VAN NUYS TERMINAL 16.7 miles north-east of Pepperdine University, and we collect from that side of the hills; send us the yard address and who holds the gate key.
- I lost the title for a dump truck that hauled from Tapo Rock & Sand. Which office issues the duplicate for that dump truck?Tapo Rock & Sand is 19.6 miles north on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, but a replacement title comes from the state’s title agency, so request a duplicate there and tell us it is on the way.
- Do you buy trucks that work out of the Port of Los Angeles? The Port of Los Angeles is 18 miles east of Pepperdine University in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings, and container tractors from its docks are trucks we buy; start with the VIN and photos.
