Freight, boxes, refuse and moving vans
Of the 107 active motor carriers registered in Pinole, 52 list general freight as their cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census. If your tractor or box truck is one of those general-freight units, have the title and current California registration in one folder before you call, so the VIN on the paperwork can be checked against the door plate in a single step.
Of the same 107, the federal census shows 12 hauling intermodal containers, 10 hauling garbage and refuse, and 10 moving household goods. A refuse body or a moving van sells the same way a tractor does here: send a photo of the body plate along with the cab, and tell us whether the body comes off or stays with the chassis.
Eight new carriers registered in Pinole in 2025 against three in 2024, according to FMCSA’s census. If you set up your authority recently and are now letting a unit go, keep the purchase paperwork from when you bought it; that file answers most of our title questions before we ask them.
Intrastate work, private fleets and long runs
Eighty-seven of Pinole’s carriers run intrastate only and 20 cross state lines, on FMCSA’s census, and 30 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods. A contractor or supplier whose truck carries its own materials can sell it to us just as a for-hire outfit can; the registration card and title are what we need either way.
The census counts 200 Pinole drivers working within 100 miles of base and 139 going beyond that radius. If your truck is out on a run when you contact us, tell us where it parks between trips, and we will set the collection for that yard rather than for your home address.
Among the 22 carriers here that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median comes to 20,000 miles a truck. Write the current odometer reading down with the VIN when you first reach out; with those two numbers we can identify the exact truck.
North Bay Yard, Chevron Yard and the Richmond docks
The North American Rail Network maps North Bay Yard 1.3 miles west of Pinole and Chevron Yard 5.3 miles south-west. A drayage tractor that shuttles between those yards is usually parked close by, so tell us which lot it sits in and whether a tow truck can reach it from the street.
South-west by 4.1 miles, Richmond is listed as a port by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which also records the Point Potrero Marine Terminal, a roll-on/roll-off facility, 6.9 miles away. For a day cab that has worked those docks, send pictures of the fifth wheel, the frame rails and all four sides so the photos and your description line up.
A truck parked inside a terminal gate can still be collected; we only need to know the gate rules ahead of time. Give us the contact who signs visitors in and any badge requirement, and the pickup gets planned around that terminal’s hours.
Selbycrockett, Richmond terminals and the San Rafael quarry
Petroleum product terminals sit on both sides of town on Energy Information Administration records: Selbycrockett 5.5 miles north-east and Richmond 6 miles south-west. If your tanker tractor loaded at either rack, keep any hazmat endorsement paperwork and tank test certificates you hold with the title, since they travel with a fuel truck when it changes hands.
West across the water, the San Rafael Rock Quarry stands 7.4 miles from Pinole in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s mine register. Dump trucks and transfer units that haul crushed stone from there fit what we buy; photograph the bed, the hoist and the tag axle if it has one.
Ozol Defense Fuel Support Point, a military installation, lies 8.4 miles east on Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. A contractor’s truck that has delivered there may carry site access stickers or logs; leave those in the cab, as they show where the truck has been.
Pinole tractors on the inspection log
Roadside stops logged by FMCSA from September 2024 to July 2026 caught 37 trucks based in Pinole, and their median model year was 2016. Find your own model year on the registration card and include it in your first message, together with the make and engine.
Of those 37 inspected trucks, 46 percent were ten or more model years old, according to the same roadside inspection records. Whatever year yours is, send any inspection reports you have kept along with the photos; each one carries a date and a place for the truck.
The biggest fleets based here are modest on FMCSA’s census: one runs 13 power units with 5 drivers, another 6 units with 2 drivers, and a third 5 units with 7 drivers. Selling two or three trucks at once from a small fleet like these works fine; list each VIN separately so every title is matched to the right unit.
Bridges, jobs and work sites around Pinole
None of Pinole’s 17 bridges carries a load posting or sits below 14 feet of clearance, per the National Bridge Inventory. Pickup routes in town are therefore open to a full-size tow rig, so the only thing we need from you is the street address and where on the lot the truck is parked.
Census Bureau LEHD job counts show 5,233 jobs in Pinole in 2023, with 156 in transportation and warehousing and 154 in construction. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau adds 42 construction establishments, so a dump truck, flatbed or service body tied to a building firm is a familiar sale here; bring the title in the company name and a letter from whoever signs for the business.
Contra Costa County has 405 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, flower seeds and bulbs leading the list. A ranch truck or livestock hauler parked out on county farmland can be collected where it stands; tell us whether the access road is gravel or dirt.
The questions we get asked in Pinole
- Can you pick up a tractor parked by North Bay Yard in Pinole?North Bay Yard is 1.3 miles west of Pinole on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from lots like that directly. Send the yard address, the gate contact and the spot where the truck is parked.
- My Pinole-registered tractor has no title in the glovebox; which office helps? For a truck registered in Pinole, a replacement title comes from California’s title agency, the same office that covers all of Contra Costa County. Start that application before we collect, and tell us it is in progress so we can plan around it.
- Do you buy refuse and moving trucks, or only tractors?Pinole has 10 refuse haulers and 10 household-goods movers among its 107 carriers on FMCSA’s census, and we buy both kinds of truck. Photograph the packer or van body, then the cab, then the VIN plate on the door jamb.
- Which details about my Pinole truck help most in the first message? With a 2016 median model year across 37 inspected Pinole trucks in FMCSA roadside inspection records, the year alone does not tell us which truck is yours. Send the VIN, the odometer reading, photos of all four sides and the title status.
- How do California’s clean truck regulations stand for a Pinole fleet owner? The California Air Resources Board repealed the Advanced Clean Fleets drayage and high-priority fleet requirements, and a federal court record shows the 2036 zero-emission sales requirement with enforcement paused. If you are selling a truck you own, have the title and registration ready when we come to Pinole.
