Six miles to the pits
Piru haulers on the Moorpark Quarry and Canyon Rock runs
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Moorpark Quarry, a sand and gravel operation 6.4 miles south-west of Piru, and a second sand and gravel site sits just beyond it at 6.8 miles on the same federal list. A Piru dump truck or end-dump tractor that loads at the Moorpark sand pits is one we will take on. If yours is parked at a pit gate or a yard off the road to Moorpark, give us that address and we will collect it where it stands.
South-east of town, Canyon Rock Plant is an industrial-mineral mine 7.1 miles out, and Pacific Rock Inc runs a crushed-stone quarry 18.7 miles south-west, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. A truck that has hauled aggregate between these sites usually has a scale-ticket or dispatch trail; photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab, plus the VIN, let us start without a visit.
Rail and fuel, south-east
Rail yards and fuel terminals south-east of Piru
Raymer Yard lies 22.8 miles south-east and Gemco Yard 24.9 miles out in the same direction, according to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Tractors that shuttle freight to and from those yards are on our list, whether the truck now sits in Piru or down in the valley near the rail.
Two petroleum product terminals, Van Nuys at 22.9 miles and Van Nuys Terminal at 24.8 miles, appear in the Energy Information Administration’s terminal records. If your tractor or tanker has run fuel from them, keep its inspection and service records together with the title, since a tank unit’s paperwork is part of what we review before pickup.
Twenty-six small carriers based around town
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 26 active carriers registered in Piru, and only 2 of them hold interstate authority while 24 stay inside California. Seven are private fleets moving their own goods. For a seller, that means most trucks here are registered and inspected under California rules, so have the current California registration card ready alongside the title.
The three biggest operations in Piru are small: one runs 3 power units with 6 drivers, and the next two run a single truck each, per the same FMCSA census. Owner-operators and two- or three-truck outfits can sell one unit at a time; send the VIN, a few photos and where the truck is kept, and we work from there.
On driving range, the FMCSA census counts 14 carriers whose drivers stay inside a hundred-mile radius and 23 whose drivers go farther. A truck that spends its weeks out of town can be collected wherever it finishes a run, as long as you tell us the location.
Produce and nurseries
Fresh produce loads and Ventura’s flower growers
Fresh produce is the cargo most often listed by Piru carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, at 8 carriers, ahead of general freight at 7; household goods account for 2 and farm supplies for 1. Reefer tractors, box trucks and flatbeds that move field crops are all trucks we collect, and the reefer unit’s service log belongs with the photos.
Ventura County had 1,812 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and potted flowering plants, cut flowers and cultivated greens, and propagative material lead its crop list. Around Piru, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 118 of the town’s 709 jobs in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, a 16.6 percent share, with wholesale trade at 51 jobs. A nursery straight truck or a produce hauler kept on a ranch can be picked up from the ranch itself.
Piru sellers missing a title: the Simi Valley DMV on Alamo Street
Titles in California are issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, which handles them through its DMV field offices. The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles lists the Simi Valley field office at 3855 D - Alamo Street, Simi Valley, 93063, as the closest to Piru, about 9.5 miles away. If the title is missing, that office is where a duplicate is requested before the sale.
Bring the registration, your ID and the VIN to the Simi Valley counter, and if a lender is still listed on the title, a lien release as well. Once the duplicate is in hand, the signed title and the registration card are the two documents we need at pickup.
CARB clean truck rules as they stand for Piru owners
For Piru tractor owners, California’s Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation stands contested at present. The state’s zero-emission sales requirement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks is a separate rule, and its enforcement is paused.
The Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation’s drayage, high priority and federal fleet requirements have been repealed. Piru owners selling a diesel tractor or dump truck can keep whatever compliance records they have with the title; we read them along with the rest of the paperwork.
The questions we get asked in Piru
- My title went missing; which office near Piru issues a replacement? The Simi Valley DMV field office at 3855 D - Alamo Street, about 9.5 miles from Piru, handles title requests for the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles.
- I run a produce reefer out of Piru; is that a truck you take?Fresh produce leads the cargo listed by Piru’s 26 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and reefer tractors and box trucks are among the trucks we buy. Send the VIN and photos of the unit.
- Can I sell one truck from a small fleet?Piru’s largest fleet runs 3 power units by FMCSA’s carrier census, so single-truck sales are the norm here, and we take one unit at a time.
